Had my front wheels balanced today due to experiencing slight vibration over 60mph on my 2011 S3 and when the tyre fitter was balancing the wheels he stated that one of the wheels was in fact buckled.
Spoke with the wheel specialists and they said that because the vibration wasn't too bad they should be able to repair wheel, maybe not be able to get it 100% true but get it to a point where balancing and vibration wasn't an issue.
anyone else had buckle repaired?
Failing that i'd be looking at a new black edition rotor wheel which i imagine wouldn't be cheap?

Probably cheaper to get a new set of wheels? Same size so you can use your existing tyres.

The old way was to heat the rim and beat it into submission with a rubber mallet, but the results were there or there abouts.

Out of interest.. Is this a genuine Audi wheel or aftermarket\replica?

I must be missing something! Why would you pay for 4 new rims when you can get one repaired or even buy only one new one if repair proves impossible or unsatisfactory?

Be able to pick up 4 after market wheels cheaper than possibly one new alloy from Audi.

It's a genuine audi wheel mate, 18" rotor type that's fitted as part of the black edition. Hopefully can be prepared because a replacement from audi would cost a fortune i would imagine.

Oh snap! We are gonna have a Dance-off between Sid and chris

I suspect if it were after market, he'd be talking about it being cracked rather than buckled though.

That's why I asked.

around 3-£400 I'd imagine.

I was suggesting buying a new set of aftermarket wheels. Not asking if his wheels on the car at the moment are replicas. What's with all the hatred towards aftermarket wheels? I've known more OEM wheels to crack and buckle more than aftermarket wheels.

Ooooh, stop feeling persecuted Chris.

I certainly don't hate aftermarket wheels! been considering a set of replica BBS-CH wheels myself and only haven't bought them already because we're going away this year & I can't justify them ...YET.

But, it's nice to collate info on how strong certain wheels really are, and so far it seems that Audi OE wheels really can take a pounding. Of course there are certain third party manufacturers who make wheels to an even higher tandard than is fittd to Audi,s, but they don't usually sell\make replicas. :)

One on my car had same issue. I put the wheel on the rear. After about 12k miles there was no uneven tyre wear and vibration was negligible.

Just like an expensive Audi rim that has buckled aye..

Rather a buckle than a crack.

Dangerous imitation wheel !! - YouTube

They're cheap for a reason.

And thats just one example. "Fake Britain" on BBC did a whole article highlighting the exact same thing with real and fake bmw wheels, all the fakes cracked all the real ones buckled.

There are many examples of this

500whp civic twisted a Rota SubZero Wheel

Rota wheels (imitation rays wheels) that twisted under high load. There was a subaru owner who took his car to nurburgring and all 4 ended up like this.

So tell me now about how bad ur audi wheels are

Sidhu88 you seem to have miss understood what I said, still.

So, I'll try again, I said after market wheels, not replicas. Comprehend?

Find me some good quality aftermarket wheels that are 18x7.5j in audi fitment for ~£400 and i'll be quiet.

Furthermore, if replica wheels arent aftermarket then what are they?

Can get a second hand set of 3SDM's or Dare wheels (Same company) for £400 without tyres which is what I said in my first post.

And if I meant replicas I would have said replicas. But I didn't, I said after market, you assumed replicas.

Tell me how bad quality 3SDM and Dare wheels are :) And mention it in here seeing as they're quite popular in that thread.

Fair enough.

Regardless of whether you or anyone else said or assumed replica, for that sort of price thats what most people would be looking at. If you're gonna fork out that sort of money i'm sure most people would be looking for new wheels too. With that in mind, its worth highlighting the issues with them.

Anyhow, valid points have been mentioned, blah blah blah, case closed.

I bought a set of 4 like this for £115 last year to fit winter tyres to.
If you are not fussed with 18" and want better ride comfort these are ideal.
Straight replacement and fit.
