Hi, recently bought a sportback A3 in the 1.8tfsi guise. Brilliant car all round but a gremlin has showed up, under load 3rd gear, up hills and on motorway/ dual carriage ways, The yellow light flashes, and feels as though the power is being backed off. A stuttering hesitation occurs, usually I think it is the engine emissions light that flashes and then on occasions stays on! Also the first day my wife took the car it went into limp mode. :scared2: this gave me the world of ear ache.

So since then Iv taken the car to my local VAG specialist, he hooked up the computer and it showed a misfire on every cylinder. which I have a print out for and will post up later. He checked the plugs, coilpacks all OK then he proceeded to get in touch with his tech to see if there was a software update available which there was. He proceeded to upload the software onto the car which was successful. I drove the car hoping it was sorted with the new software, it felt alot smoother and there were no noticeable flat spots now and take off in first gear was alot better. BUT the light and hesitation showed up again, absolutely gutted!

Been looking on the net to see if there are any known problems with the 1.8tfsi, but this engine seems rare in Audi circles and the little info I could find was off Skoda and Seat forums. But similar problems to mine were alot more common with the 2.0tfsi people, showing very similar symptoms to me. And to cut along story short it seems to lead to Carbon build up! Im thinking this is the next step I should take, to deal with the build up and see how bad it actually is.

To clarify my car is a 59 reg on 80,000 miles, 1 owner possibly a sunday driver who didnt give the car an italian tune up once in a while.

Any advice would be appreciated, all mods are now on hold. :keule:

I'd still go with plugs or coils has this on mine it was cool packs.. You can run some bgk44 through it helped my cold stutter issue

Hi mate thanks for that, so you think it could be the coil packs? I did stress this to the garage and he replied that if it was the coil packs it wouldn't be misfiring on all cylinders? only on some.

Coils and plugs are fairly cheap id do them anyway, mine were done under recall but one still failed after less than 10k then run some bgk through the tank. Carbon build up is common and mines suffered but I can't imagine it making it misfire on all cylinders? I might be wrong though

Thanks mate , gonna take the car down tomorow and ask to have the coil packs done. atleast its one thing done and then I can take it from there.

Run some ecomax fuel cleaner / similar through it as it will start to de coke carbonised engine components.Hope you get it sorted,Chilly

You should do the coils yourself easy peasy even for a someone like me with no tech experience
