Anyone have accurate info about Haldex servicing on a 2010 S3 Sportback...?

So my 2010 S3 Sportback apparently has the Generation 4 Haldex system?

So far I've called two Audi dealers and got two different answers regarding servicing.

First dealer tells me 40k for Haldex oil and filter, second dealer tells me it's sealed for life and does not need servicing.

So I go to a recommended VAG "specialist" website, AwesomeGTI and start a chat, ask them the question and am told with no doubt my 2010 S3 has a Generation 2 Haldex system and requires oil/filter change every 20k.

Can anyone clear this up?
 
It's not even that simple, gen 2 is also sealed for life... But CAN be serviced

I guess what I need is with someone with a 2010 S3 Sportback to check the service shedule in their manual, unfortunately mine didn't come with one.
 
My 2010 s3 sportback had its haldex service at 40k.
They told me its every 40k on my car.

Do you have a "service schedule" in your owners pack at all mate?
 
Had mine done this year, 38k or 40k can't remember but that was within the recommended mileage in the manual for mine (2010)

I have 2009 S3 and Indy specialist attempted Haldex service last year but the kit I got was wrong. He confirmed I have gen 4 haldex and I bought service kit for gen 2 on advice from Audi parts man.
From research I have done online and with the stealers gen 4 filter is not a replaceable item but the oil should be changed.
I Plan to change oil during the next annual service.

Hi Murray, the 8P3 S3 definitely has the Gen 4 Haldex system, which is 'supposedly oiled for life', but it can be serviced. Have a look at this thread. Paula.

I'm driving another car with Gen IV Haldex as it happens, Bud. 2012 Range Rover Evoque Si4 Coupe Automatic with the same Ford engine as the new Focus ST. It's Fuji White, with black roof, privacy glass, most options and all Black Design Pack bits now fitted. I'm currently in the process of 'carbonating it', with mirror covers, bonnet vents, side vents, front splitter and rear diffuser. Love it to bits, but really loved my S3 too. Hope you're loving yours!

Sounds amazing Paula and if your previous car's are anything to go by then it will be lovely!

It's quite funny actually, we clearly have the same taste in cars as I bought your old Astra, then went on to an S3 and the Evoque the Mrs and I have been looking at for an every day car maybe next year too! Great minds and all that lol ;)

Brilliant thanks mate, just one more thing, this information is all contained in which booklet? The actual service booklet that gets the stamps in it? Unfortunately mine only came with a replacement "duplicate" service book with none of this information.

I've got the older haldex system mate, but I checked my book anyway... My haldex oil was replaced at 40k miles... Dont know if this has a relevance to you, because your system is different, but I thought i'd share as, how different could they be except from how they deliver the power
 
I think part of the confusion is e.g. that Haldex will say Gen 4 came out in 2008, for talkings sake. I think this means they started to produce them then, not necessarily that Audi for example would immidiately start fitting them then. So if my theory is correct it would be a few years till the fitted the bang up to date system and would continue with the older generation till then.
Sealed for Life, I would take with a pinch of salt and if it was my car I would service it regardless, even if it's just a drain plug, oil; can be sucked out an pumped in nowodays, job done! They tried to say with the older ones that the filters didn't need replaced that often and caused so much confusion loads of garages (Audi included) just didn't bother and assumed if the oil was changed it would be fine. If you read VW Vortex, they found some of the problems people were having was due to dirt by-passing the filter and ending up lodged in the pump, ever wonder why the pumps clog up/pack in? They can be cleaned but if garages don't change the filters, then what's the chances?
I've seen cars with full history and recent Haldex services recorded and they haven't been done, maybe the oil was changed, thats hard to tell but certainly not the filters.
Then there's the whole mechanical diff situation, loads don't even know there's a difference or that the oil can be changed/should be checked in that too. My answer would be buy a car with the best History you can then do it all yourself when you get it then you know for sure it's done.
Apologies for the rant but they are not rocket science and if people just maintained them properly, they wouldn't end up having to throw the whole unit away in later vehicle life and buy another so often. Don't get me wrong it's not owner's fault, garages and manufacturers are at least as much at fault for not providing good quality information in an easily understandable format :)

Yeah, we obviously have very similar taste in cars, given our recent ownership history, lol. I know your Missus and yourself would love the Evoque to bits. It handles like a sports car, it goes like stink, looks the part (IMO) and it has enough gadgets to keep even the most hard to please people happy. I tried out 'snow mode' for the first time today and apart from how well it did on the road, on the 5" display in the middle of the rev counter and speedo it showed the positioning of the wheels (and I don't just mean one in each corner, lol), to help you correct your steering if the car starts to skid. I didn't even know it did that. You should have a wee test drive!

On a wee side note, although all the lights have the system check function, you can pop in non Canbus bulbs wherever you like (interior and exterior) and they all work without a single problem. Needless to say, there's not a single non-LED bulb left. :wub: xx

Marshy is your car a 2010 mate?

The reason I ask is, according to my service book there is no time limit on the Haldex oil change, only 38k. I guess they changed it for MY10. My car is now 5 yrs old and just clocked 30k. For the sake of £70 I think I'll get the oil changed soon rather than wait another year.

jeez mate, ive been told my Audi Five Dock in Australia every 20,000km i do it yearly though for piece of mind , it doesnt cost much anyway keep that jealous car happy and off the back pocket :p

but this is the problem with main dealers little knowledge my the dolly birds on the desk and maybe 1 2 old boys that know what they are doing then the rest is young lads that know jack squat

yes thats true they ******** my engine pretty well to say the least
