2006 A3 quattro 2.0tdi BMN engine. I`ve read numerous times on this site that the gearbox and transfer box are connected internally thereby using the same oil.Mine doesn`t.Had to remove transfer box so drained oil from gearbox ,looked new, nice golden colour. However transfer box oil is green!! Once transfer box was out there are no holes with "O" rings on them as I`ve seen on this site to allow oil to flow between the 2 cases.Gave Audi chassis number and they agreed the 2 cases use different oils. How can you tell by looking which transfer boxes use the gearbox oil or their own oil.

I have the same car and checked on Elsawin. The gearbox and transfer box fill from different plugs, i haven't done mine yet but from what i remember the manual says the fill plug for the transfer box is behind a shield of some sort. I'm unsure on the type of fluid however

Thanks for that.So much for my Audi specialist who says the transfer is filled from the gearbox.
