    S3 New Clutch now to remap or not??

    Looking for some advice from people who have had an 8P s3 and a remap...

    I had a bluefin on my s3 (not particularly impressed with it tbh) and had the usual clutch slippage problems shortly after. So for various reasons, mainly due to budget I had the flywheel and clutch replaced with brand new genuine oem parts (LUK). The car is completely standard now although I did run it for 2 days with a REVO remap.

    The question is I'm really tempted to go back to REVO. What do you guys think are the chances of the clutch going again especially with it being a new one? I've read some people are fine with the stock clutch and some are not!

    Not interested in hearing people saying "You should have gone for a Sachs" etc. I'm not going to go for stage 1 unless I'm really convinced.

    The car has done 65k miles.

    They do go after a while on S3's, its just part of the process of owning an S3 tbh mate, adding any remap will of course make the slippage happen at some point, on a new one not for a fair few miles unless you drive like a nutter 24/7, 65k on existing was good IMHO, I mean lets be honest the S3 is a devils car, it goats you to drive it like you're on a promise lol.

    Out of interest pal how much did you
    Pay for the new clutch ect and was that through Audi ?

    £800 parts (including flywheel) and labour from a VW/Audi specialist. I could have had it done for around 500-600 from a back street garage but didn't feel confident!

    See that's it, if I think it will last anything over 25k on a new clutch I'm more than happy to go for a remap. However, if it can go within a few k then obviously not!

    Just feels a bit bland with it being standard lol

    It will last easily more than a few k, some with remaps have lasted 40k,maybe more, so I don't think that's an issue, my mates S3 8P revo mapped, which are considered to be fairly volatile at times, had his changed about 40k but he used to bang about everywhere anyway so understandable tbh lol.

    You are saying all the right things lol I do like to use the power often so mine will probably go quick.

    My mates S3 clutch has lasted 10K on its clutch after being mapped. Made 305bhp 330lbs ft on AMD's rollers the other month

    car has done 67K in total. It all down to how the car is mapped as my mate has not been kind to it lol

    it all depends if you are going to take it further than a Stage 1. If not then stick an OEM clutch back in unless an uprated one works out cheaper

    Defo no plans on going further than stage 1. Out of interest which map does he have? Also, has he replaced it with OEM or an uprated clutch?

    My friend stuck a stock kit back in, as he didn't want added vibration & heavier pedal, which I think single mass/aftermarket can do.

    its still completely standard and running the original clutch Sorry, my original post wasnt quite clear. I was making the point that clutches failing so soon is normally down to a large torque spike low in the rev range. Thats what kills a clutch

    if you don't do drag races and launches and if your not lazy and floor it from 2000 rpm at higher gears you should be fine. i did 30000km's on stage 2 but the clutch didn't like launches. changed mine to single mass flywheel because its running stage 2+ and i didn't want to worry about it. now it's total animal, but i don't care about occasional rattle, and slightly heavier pedal.

    The S3 clutch should easily hold up to stage2 Revo, Its only on the FWD Mk5 platform such as the ed30 etc etc that suffer with clutch issues.

    Unless they've chucked away that awful LUK clutch,I'd have to disagree with that.

    The LUK will deal with Stg1 reasonably well,but many people find the thing gives up pretty easily on Stg2,and mine,like many others,certainly threw in the towel and began to slip.

    I think most of us advise that at anything other than Stg1,be prepared to fork out for a new clutch.

    That's interesting I was seriously being tempted going back to stage 1. However, after considering this for so long and going through the frustration I started thinking about a new car. The new S3 doesn't look special enough so I'm now seriously considering going for the.........

    We have mapped a couple on stage 2 and have held up fine BUT all have had new clutche kits within 10 - 20k. I always advise on stage 2 that really it should have an uprated clutch like a Helix. Esp if you quick off at the light

    That pretty much agrees with what I'd said,in that it may be OK,but it almost certainly will need replacing,and sooner rather than later.

    If you're talking about the Helix SMF setup,there have been issues around the release bearing not disengaging properly,and although that also may have been addressed,the best current choice seems to be the Loba/SMF,unless you need something like the thing I've got.

    The Sachs organic retaining the LUK DMF is also OK up to around 400lbs(which is well above Stg2+) but that doesn't respond well to drag starts,where the Loba is a lot more tolerant.

    Neither of those,or even the carbon/metallic clutch I have are much heavier than the OEM clutch,so that's something for anyone concerned about the weight and feel to bear in mind.
