Fuel filter change on TDI CR engines

After getting the right filter 3CO 127 434 at last I have read that these speck engines need VCDS to prime the pumps after the filter
is changed as just turning the key 3 times after a filter change to prime the pumps and clear the air doesn't work unlike the DP engine is this true?

ive never had any problems but i switch ignition on and off about 20 times
