What would you do in my shoes?

So as you could probably tell from my other threads, I'm having a bit of a battle with my car recently, it seems to be that it's one problem after the other, and I'm starting to feel at this point it's never going to be right. So I thought I would ask for your guys thoughts and what you might do in my situation.

My problem is, the car has had approximately £4000 spent on problems since I bought it in January, it's had the following done to it:
    • Gearbox Rebuild
    • New Clutch
    • New DMF
    • New Boost pipes
    • Crankshaft Sensor
Now, before I bought the car, it had recently the following done to it:
    • Top engine rebuild
    • Timing belt
    • New turbo (I think)
Off the top of my head, it has the following that needs to be done / will probably need to be done:
    • Propshaft bush, causing resonance which is getting worse
    • Engine startup sounds rough - had another 2.0TDI stood next to it and the difference was night and day
    • Turbo will probably need to be done in the next few months
    • New suspension / bushes
    • Misc things, glovebox has snapped off, Bose sub rattles like crazy, rear passenger door doesn't open from the outside, lighter socket doesn't work

I got the car for a very good price, it's literally got every extra and because it's the 170 Sportback, it's probably going to be quite a sought-after A3 if I was ever to sell it. As it stands if I add what i've spent on the car with what I bought it for, it probably works out at what I would of payed if everything was okay.

Now, I expect to keep it for 2 more years, and fully expect to have to spend another 2k on it, but from what I can work out, the difference between when I sell it in 2 years and if I was to sell it now, wouldn't be massive, so I should probably just see it through. And if I was to sell it now, the money I would get, wouldn't be enough to get a similar specced car.

Can anyone agree with this "logic", or am I just plain stupid and should sell up now?

On a "side" note, I understand that tuning is never an "investment", but a modified A3 2.0TDI in 2 years time, e.g. with a reputable development kit or something of the likes, is that going to increase the value (as long as it's all done properly) or make no difference. I understand the prospective market will be shrunk, but for a car so highly specced, with a well known tuning companies badge on it, should make it a item of interest, maybe?

This has turned into a right essay, so apologies for that!

keep it, if you already spent 4k on it, and now its worth the market price. you mayaswell keep it knowing its had those new things, would be a shame to rid of it now.

Keep it, although i wouldn't touch a remapped car because instantly i would think it would of had the **** kicked out of it.

As a buyer what i look for is a standard car for me to be remapping and modifying, i wouldn't ever buy a car knowing it had a remap on it etc but that's just me.

    Just to reiterate, keep it.

Just reread post, so essentially after all work is complete it's gonna be approx 10k for the car. Tbh as long as your happy with the quality of the repairs then their really isn't much reason to get rid of it.

Not sure where you got that number from, but not far off, it'll come to a bit more if I do have to spend anymore money on it.

The extra 2k is for foreseeable problems, as listed above. Rough starting could be down to multiple expensive things!

Quality of repairs... well I took it to a garage in ellesmere port and ever since it's been running even worse. I've taken it back twice and they haven't fixed it, so I want to take it to another garage for them to look at it / fix the garage's mess.

Well, it was only in ellesmere port because a relative recommended it and it was near my hometown - although I personally live in t' yorkshire.

I'd happily pay a bit more to get a decent job done and although I'm sure not all indie garages are bad, I've unfortunately had bad luck, so I'll be avoiding in the future.

Out of interest, where abouts in ellesmere port would you recommend?
