Emission Control Light and Limp Mode

    Hi all,

I am totally new to this forum but have been reading it for a while for other issues which have helped massively.

I appear to have a problem with the Emission Control System and the car going into Limp Mode. Last weekend we were heading to Silverstone and after reaching about 80mph the car went into limp mode and the ECS light went on... When restarting it everything was okay but the ECS light stayed on. The car is a A3, 2.0 TDI 05 Reg Automatic.

We bought the car mid July and all seemed okay - took it for a health check and they reported back with a Error Code of P0234 for air pressure control limit and marked as sporadic. They also said the turbo was a little noisy but nothing to really be worried about. The garage I went to seemed to be all clued up and said they were audi specialists. At this stage no warning lights have been coming on - the ECS light would flash for a 2 seconds when starting the car but that is about it. They said it wasn't a massive thing and could be looked into more when we got a few bit replaced (back wiper motor and front water jet nozzle)

Now - I am not too sure if this will have caused the issue but before we left for Silverstone the OH had put in 3 diesel fuel additives. He put in (all Forte brands) Advanced Formula Car Diesel Fuel Treatment, DPF Cleaner and Regenerator and Forte Diesel Turbo Cleaner. After this happened I spent a bit more time reading up and I don't think my car has a DPF filter on it - will this have caused the issue?

The car seems to be running okay but I have noticed that the diesel is not lasting as long as it normally would. It hasn't gone into limp mode since this happened but I generally do 20 miles a day driving to work and back.

    Any advice/help would be appreciated!

    Thanks,

    Fuzze

This could be a multitude of things. I was going to suggest DPF but if you know you havent got it then that eliminates the worst case scenario. It really needs to be scanned with VCDS to see what error codes you have and then take it from there. Could be EGR, glow plugs, injectors etc etc. Have a look on the VCDS section and see who is nearest to you with VCDS and send them a PM asking for assistance. Someone will help nearby.

Hi, welcome to audi-sport.net. Have you had the car scanned with vcds to see if there are any underlying problems? x

    Welcome to the site.

No dpf on your car & it is a bkd engine, more than likely its either egr, imf or turbo, as above scan with vcds, I hazard a guess it will say overboost condition & if so its pointing towards turbo.

Thanks for all the replies. Really hoping it isn't the turbo!

Haven't had it checked over with VCDS but will have a look and see if there is anybody nearby.

Hey Lauren, that looks like a turbo fault & trust me it can blow anytime if it is caked up inside, so best routes are, remove clean & refit, but if when removed its got play in the shaft then its replace time, so either buy another of the same or upgrade to hybrid & map it for the turbo.

I have a brand new turbo boxed if you do go down that route

    Hiya,

Was hoping it wasn't going to be the turbo but hey ho!

Wouldn't be able to do this myself - any ideas what a good/reasonable price would be for somebody to remove, clean and refit it? Just out of interest, what would I be looking at for the new one you have?

    Thanks!
