Sort-of jumping on the back of a previous thread here - S3 Camchain Failure...

But, camchain and cambelt - which models does this apply to? I'm just about to get the cambelt, water pump and coolant changed on my 58k A3 2.0 Tdi Sport 140 and wonder if a camchain needs to be factored-in?

I was under the impression that the chain lasted for intergalactic mileages anyway and see no mention of maintenance or replacement of the chain in the Haynes workshop manual. Is the dual chain/belt set-up specific to the S3 only, or a model-wide characteritsic?

To my knowledge with is typical procedure for most 16v Vw engines to drive one cam off the cambelt and have then on a chain between both cams I have heard of the tensioner failing but that won't do to much damage as the chain shouldn't be able to jump of it will just slap about
