just had my motor looked at to confirm my thoughts of a failing DMF. The owner of a specialist garage taken it for a quick drive and listened to the "rattle" at idle, when he came back from the test drive, told me there was a sort of grinding noise in 5th-6th, which is bearings running dry in the box until it eventually gives and snaps something. (sorry forgot what exactl bearings he reffered too) On searching the net and this forum, ive not read about and bearing failures within the box only Failing DMF, which appears to be fairly common in these boxes? Furthermore, the owner said he hasnt ever had to change one flywheel on a DSG transmission.

Anybody have any information on this? or know of any failures within the box?

Considering the millions of DSG boxes sold failure rates are actually low.I know that does not help you.
Before condemning the DSG, noise could be coming from diff. I'd have it scanned by VCDS first.

Already scanned , no faults what so ever.

Just a chatter every few seconds at idle in N or P or when revs are coming down from accelerating ( can hear noise bouncing off walls or cars sometimes).

Either way gearbox is being dropped next Thursday

I have the exact same noise from mine when in N/P.
Sounds like a bag of rattling spanners!!!

I'm getting it looked at on Friday, my garage thinks its the flywheel.
