Hi guys,

I'm looking to get my windows tinted pretty soon, and am going for an OEM tint look, however I don't want the horrible heater lines on the back window to show up like they did on my previous car so I am looking to source a manufacturers tinted rear window so they don't show.

I spoke to my tinter and he informed me he might not be able to match the 2 rear quarters with the rear window so its best to get all 3.

Now can anyone give me any info on how easy they are to install / remove and where to buy them and/or an item number for the windows?

I was looking to get a chassis number off a Audi the same as mine with the OEM tints to order some but I cant find any anywhere! So if anyone can help me out with that also then it would be great!

Sounds like you're trying to go **** around tit to do something pointless?

You're always going to see the heater lines in the rear window as they're not transparent and will show no matter what tint you get when there is any kind of light behind you.

i used to tint at my old shop couple of years ago and you will never get rid of the dot matrix on the rear screen on some cars its not even that bad but on some its quite noticible just one of those things really so i wouldnt get too bothered about it..

Well the reason for it is on my old Honda civic the element was bright orange and it looked terrible next to the premier edition type r's that never showed them at all. So ideally id like to change the window.

To be honest it's not even that bad on the a3's I'll show you mine next week when I've done mine

Bah, where were you when I was selling a full set of rear genuine black edition tinted windows eh? and you're local to me too lol. Never mind.

Here are all the details I could find on the glass I had.

Tinted Drivers Quarter Glass: 8P3 845 300
Tinted Passenger Quarter Glass: 8P3 845 299

I couldn't see a part number for the tailgate glass anywhere but it was stamped with the Audi and Pilkington logo along with the following information: AS3M5532DOT682 - 43R-001585 - ESG Tinted.

One option is to call Audi parts with the reg number from a black edition A3 and ask for the rear glass part number.

If you go for tints, you will see the orange heater element lines as the tint goes inside the glass and the dark contrast shows them more. If you go for OEM glass, the lines are obviously still there, but nowhere near as noticeable because the glass itself is dark which takes the edge off the heating elements behind it.

Best of luck with the search as the glass is like rocking horse poop. I sold mine to a fella in Portugal in the end :)

It is really impossible to remove the lines without destroying the glass in the process. If you exert great effort, you might be able to remove the metallic side on the interior side of the glass, but the brownish lines that you see from the exterior are there to stay. As for installing or removing are you planning to do it yourself? it is much better for it to be taken care of an expert.

Nooooooooooooooo. How much did you sell for?? :(

Thanks for the info mate :)

I've just had my rear 3 windows done in standard tint and tbh you can barely make out the lines. I am very happy how mines turned out. Just get a tint specialist to do it
