    Engine Start Blocked by Immobilizer .. Huh?

    Okay so started the car this morning heading to work, immediately the car died and the glowplug light started flashing.

    I didn't have time to do the scan (it was 3am!) but I knew something would be stored so scanned it this afternoon.

    This has never happened before, anyone else had it?

    New battery in the key but if the ignition switch/barrel is faulty it will be covered by Audi warranty.

    my mk4 golf once done the exact same thing, glow plug light flashed and wouldn't start, not even cranking. I was stuck at work so I kept trying and eventually it worked like normal, never fixed it as it only done it once and never again, though i did swap the key for the spare!

    fault from transponder to car
    nothing to do with battery in key

    prob just gremlins

    Thought this was a red herring, it seems not.

    Happened again this evening, this time the car didn't start and died at 500rpm when starting.

    Will get it booked in and checked out.

    Are you local? i could check your transponders are sending and recieving signal. more likely a sticky relay or switch unless the cluster is on its way out.

    I'm in Belfast which is a bit far from you!

    Can it be checked via VCDS? If so how?

    The car is still under warranty so should be covered.
