R8/Red Top Coils?

Anyone running these? Any problems?

Thinking about getting some over the black ones for purely cosmetic reasons as I need some fresh coils.

Any chance I could get some pics if anyone has them fitted also.

The only ones that make a measurable difference are the Okadas if you want about 5-10 bhp on a 500+bhp engine.

I.e. a very small gain for a large outlay.

I guess if the red tops are the same price & you need new ones, then guess it will look meaner lol, but 5-10bhp for the cost of those on your car setup doesn't seem worthwhile to me.

I've got a very slight mis on idle on pot 3 so may as well change the lot. You can get a full set of red for the same money as normal blacks just though it may be a cosmetic improvement.

aren't they like 650-700 $ last i checked ? but they give you more sparks more combustion so its not bad for teh mad petrol head as 5-10bhp is a still a difference

I looked at the UK prices....£610 inc VAT.

So that's a lot of cash for 5-10bhp,and you have to remember that's at the top end......a few of us on VAGOC running BT setups looked at these,and one of us even bought a set,before deciding the gains were just too small.

yeah i guess so... i participate in time attack series sometimes so i know that every bit counts

I can appreciate that,but I'd say that the gains from say 0.2bar more boost would be felt more throughout the range,and maybe cost less as well.

in the state of matters we are talking about for the average tuner you are completely right no its not worth it as they can use that money to spend it on something more suitable with more noticeable gains

I think one place where these have been found to make a significant difference has been on a few high boost 1.4TFSi's with WMI,causing misfire issues,but on the 2.0TFSi,I just think there are bigger gains to be had from £600 invested elsewhere.

I know it costs a bit more,but the gains from a good LSD could easily exceed the gains from these(but I'll feed back on that when my Quaife is fitted!).

trust me the feeling is great especially with your KW suspension and Super Sport tires... (not to exaggerate) but you will tend to feel as if your tires had super glue on them on acceleration and cornering unfortunately for me in australia that would translate to 1,000$ for the LSD and 3500 for Labour to fit etc.. :shrug:

I know!

Right now it squirms a bit under full throttle as the stock front diff hasn't got the capacity to deal with what's going through it.

I had Quaife diffs on my Escort,front and rear,and the traction was amazing,wet,dry or icy,the thing just gripped and put the power down,and I do miss that.

Are you after some purely for cosmetic reasons? If so ECS Tuning sell sets of red coil packs for the 2.0Tfsi.
