Sorry if this is a dumb question (i'm new here).

Just trying to get the correct oil level in my A3 TDi 170 and the dipstick is quite hard to read (the one with the two balls / spheres at each end). I've checked oil hundreds of times before on other cars but this one is difficult to interpret (it being black doesn't help). My question is does the oil level need to be 'between' the ball shaped bits or can it extend to the upper part of the upper ball (if that makes sense). Just don't want to overfill it as it has a DPF and i'm lead to believe it can knacker it.

The manual shows illustrations of two dipsticks, neither of them like mine.

Many thanks for any advice.

Cheers, Will.

P.s i've read that some owners just wait for the oil light to come on and put a litre in, but for some reason that seems crude (if you'll excuse the pun).
