    INSURANCE SAYS £1400 LABOUR IS TOO MUCH TO REPAIR THIS

    had a smack the other day.
    a van pulled an emergency brake on me in the wet an this happened.
    I insisted on using my body shop guy that does Bentleys and high end cars.
    my insurance said they could get it repaired less than £1000 for labour..
    they also said they use pattern parts which is as good.
    What do you guys & gals think?

    £1400 too much labour? I'm guessing you've facelifted an older model then, other wise that would be a perfectly respectable cost to repair a new model as as far as the insurance would be concerned?
    TDI PD170 S-Line Sportback... 191.2bhp & 290lb/ft torque @ standard with an iffy turbo! No idea with the new one or Shark Stage 1 remap installed, DPF off Stage 1 ready to go, Suspension & wheels to be fitted... Still....

    Had this sort of issue when a guy cracked my rear bumper of my passat I got a quote from the main dealer body shop it was 1200 quid for the bumper and a chrome strip his insurance said they do not have them on the list I then told them the better get them added to the list and that is what they did it is your car and you pay the policy so its upto you as the customer.

    TBH looking at the bonnet it took a fair amount of load, has the chassis been checked?

    £1400 labour doesn't seem unfair at all, say eg. £50 an hour, that's 28 hours, removal of all the parts, accessing the real damage, repairing whats underneath & any electrical/mechanical damage, etc etc takes a fair bit of time to do, plus any rubbing down, primer, painting etc of new parts, when you consider that's basically 3 days of 9 hours a day it doesn't seem unreasonable at all.

    Ouch! wait 1400 just for labour? That seems expensive to me. or parts+paint as well? What is that covering? What's the damage? most of the parts I can see there are a simple remove and replace plug and play.

    that's what I thought.
    the chassis is not affected as u can see, it was a high level damage.
    car wont start &airbags not deployed.

    not sure on that
    last one i had fault they sent to car clinic
    i paid £238.87 on top to use oem
    pattern look as good as oem tho.

    Write off value is usually around 60% of the vehicle value, with the insured value at £12000 lets say £7200 is the write off figure.


    If the labour figure is £1400 are they trying to say the parts will cost £5800?!


    Something doesn't sit right to me.

    It's your choice where you get your car repaired... Keep telling them this! Keep pushing for genuine parts too.

    When I had some damage on my old vehicle they wanted me to send it to a bodyshop who specialised in Nissan. Ha. Who were they kidding? Just because it was their approved one in my area.

    Basically get it to your guy and get him to do a report, they will then send out a dude to asses the damage and agree with the quote.

    I agree with NHN about the labour rate, I say it's fair. Need to strip it back to basics. In a smash its quite easy for chassis damage to be hidden. Plus you don't want people doing a quick charge.

    Sorry to see the damage bud, I'm guessing as you went in the back it's gonna be classed as your fault? Hope you get it sorted!

    It's your insurance policy for your car! The insurance policy is to cover your car/parts like for like. Insist on genuine parts! And get it done where you want. This is what you pay all that money for every year.

    A lot of time its in the small print that they can use insurance acreddited parts,i would say the labour quoted is about correct as NHN says,you can often use which everbody shop you like but if its someone they dont deal with they may not cover you to have a courtesy car with them or even have one at all.

    people make me smirk with going on about high end bodyshops as there is no such thing all people from bodyshops are generally working to the same standards and guidelines,a car is a car to them we have lads here who have worked at jaguar,vw,porsche etc but they are no better or worse than people who didnt and have had good experience at other bodyshops,the insurance wont pay dealer repair prices most of the time because of high labour rates for the same repairs they get a bodyshop groups ,all the paint should be the same ie :nexa/ici/standox etc,they all should be pas125 approved or the big insurance comanies wouldnt give them a repair contract.
