    RNSE AMI Problems!

Thought I would do a little test fit this afternoon of my AMI for my RNSE while waiting for a appropriate glovebox to turn up! (hint hint any for sale let me know!)

I'll cover the basics first so I don't cause any confusion.

    It's a 193G model.

    The AMI PN is 8P0 057 785

    The harness I used was Audi Music Interface AMI - RNS-E - Harness - Audi A3 8P-37575

Enabled Media Player 3 in the CAN Gateway and changed the RNSE coding to suit - Using genuine VCDS.

Okay - so all plugged in, AMI fires up and charges my iPhone 4S.

Go into MEDIA, select source and Audi Music Interface appears and starts playing, I can scroll through all the features.

Main problem is that the music is very tinny, ie, it plays the beat OK but as soon as something is said, it's very low and the song has no bass.

I originally thought the loom could be interfering with my BT loom, but I took the BT loom out and it still done the same, again, connected directly into the RNSE produced the same result.

I haven't tried a different device yet, but I am using the blue collar lead.

No fault codes showing in RNSE (I done the ZF antenna upgrade ) nor the AMI module.

Any ideas would be mucho appreciated.

Usually the harness is wrong, the L/R/GND are incorrect at the AMI end. There are differences between the RNS-E and the Concert/Symphony III B8 chassis AMI's, I think maybe you have got the right cable, but incorrectly wired.

    According to Elsawin
    Pin 21 RNS-E = Yellow = ground = 10 AMI
    Pin 22 RNS-E = Green = right = 9 AMI
    Pin 6 RNS-E = Grey = lef t= 4 AMI

Check them on the AMI to the RNS-E 26 pin connector

Craig - sorry to ask a stupid question but should I be looking at the left or right hand side of this pic?

Or am I looking at the wrong thing?

While were at it, you wouldn't have or know anyone selling a changer glovebox?

Neither, the Audio for the AMI connects from the 12 pin AMI connector straight through to the 26 pin connector (grey plug)

    Craig, I don't have a 26 pin plug.

I do have a 32pin multimedia plug, the 12 pin AMI plug and a 24 pin grey plug in the quadlock.

Sorry not 26 pin, the grey connector is 32 pin as shown in your picture. So referring back to original reply, check the 3 wires from the 32 pin grey connector to the 12 pin AMI plug. I included the wiring pins.

Ignore the quadlock completely as it doesn't carry any audio for the AMI.

    Hi Craig,

    I have

    Brown on pin 6
    Black on pin 21
    Grey/white on pin 22

They all seem to be in the wrong position?

So you have the 3 wires of the 32 pin connector in the right places, what about at the other end, the 12 pin connector for the AMI, where do the brown, black and grey/white wires go to.

Just looking at this as I've got an AMI kit here to install this weekend.

My AMI part number is 8P0 035 785 - so different to yours. Hope it will work!

My lead has the same connectors you describe, while the cables aren't the colours mentioned above - i have the same black/brown/white - they do connect in the correct configuration

I didn't take that one apart as I could see in to it to check which cable went to which pin.

I just used my iphone on video recorder and put the light on so I could see.

Black connector going into AMI -

    Brown - Pin 4
    Black - Pin 10
    Grey - Pin 9

    So you have
Brown RNS-E pin 6 to AMI Pin 4
Black RNS-E pin 21 to AMI Pin 10
Grey RNS-E pin 22 to AMI Pin 9

    Compared to

So looks like all the pins are connected in the right configuration, you just have different colour wires like me (Black for ground, instead of Yellow; Grey for Right, instead of Green; and Brown for Left, instead of Grey

So the problem must lay with the AMI unit itself then?

Ill try a different iDevice this afternoon.

Could be a loose wire in the harness, coding etc still.

Coding is fine (I think), CAN gateway and enable AMI in the RNSE coding.

I wouldn't have a clue how to check the harness, I would probably end up breaking it.

Not happy plus still not found a glovebox!

Can only be the AMI if the wiring is correct.

Thanks - well ordered another so hopefully be here next week.

Contacted seller of this one, says it was working before it was listed - hmm low feedback user, should've known better!

I paid £260 (iirc) for a kit on eBay. Same guy i got the kit for my old S5 from. Just fitted (took ~ half an hour or so) and working fine with no fault codes (once I'd figured out the correct coding for my setup)

This one was used and cheap at £90 - I should've known, my own fault with only 18 feedbacks.

The second one was £145 with the seller 1000 positive feedbacks so I should be fine this time.

I re-connected the AMI this afternoon, wiggled all wires moved everything around and still the same poor sound.

If this second one goes wrong I think I'll just buy new!

Seller refusing to refund so had to open a dispute case with eBay.

I have stated all facts and hopefully eBay decide in my favour and get me the refund after I send it back.

If the second one arrives, plugs in and works then at least you have proof it's the AMI unit.

Hope you get them both sorted!

Okay so new module arrived in the post. Looking at the Advanced ID in VCDS, this is a 2012 module compared to the 2009 in the first module.

It's a harness issue, not module issue. Plugged the 2012 module in and the same poor sound still was outputted. I just dont think my car wants AMI in it!

Will get on to Kufatec this evening.

    So frustrating it's unreal!!

Thanks for all your help guys

Just fix the loom, grab some 009 wires from audi & replace the audio wires, 3 of them to the 32 pin connector.

Question, not saying this will help as looks like wiring to me, but as this is free to test, did you try enabling & disabling the auxin coding in rns & ami as yet, to see if it made any difference?

    Tanks Nigel, I'll try that.

I did notice when I looked at the coding for the AMI that there was an option for aux, this wasn't enabled

I never connected my aux after I done the rnse retrofit as its bit of a phaff to use.

Good news is that I have finally found a suitable glovebox! woohoo!

Sent the loom back to Kufatec (Richter Sport) so awaiting their word whether a refund or replacement is gonna happen.

Okay to bring this thread finally to a close.

New glovebox arrived with cd changer slot, Kufatec sent a replacement loom (which thankfully now works! woo!) and I went about fitting it all together this afternoon.

What I learnt from this retrofit -

    - You need patience to find a glovebox, I stalked eBay for the correct glovebox for must of been 3 weeks

    - Kufatec looms aren't all they're cracked up to be, they can get them wrong.

    - Kufatec's UK customer support via Richter Sport is woeful

Thanks all for your help, I would've just given up and sold everything!

However, I now have fully working AMI in my car via my MK2 RNSE

    Hmmmm what retrofit next?!

    Code:
    Address 2E: Media Player 3 (R199) Labels: 8T0-035-785.clb
       Part No SW: 8P0 035 785 HW: 8P0 035 785
       Component: SG ext.Player H08 0100
       Revision: 00000000
       Coding: 020202
       Shop #: WSC 01236 758 00200
       VCID: F4E3241E577B83B8B43

    No fault code found.
