Got caught out on a trip to Leeds from Southampton and my spare oil was empty.

Using the very nifty Audi Dealer poi in TomTom it navigated me to my nearest Audi dealer which turned out to be Peter Gilder in Sheffield.

Spoke to the bloke on parts and he came out with a can of 0w-30 oil, but it didn't say AVS on it. I mentioned this and he said that there was no difference, that the 0w-30 was the critical bit.

Now this sounded like horse$hit to me, but to be honest I'd just driven 25 miles with the oil light on and my cars in for it's service today anyway so I didn't much care so I bent over his desk while he removed £11 from my a$$.

So, hor$eshit or not?
Peter Gilder Audi, generally good or complete muppets?

complete muppets with regards to customer care or at least according to my Brother and his A4 Cab, I have yet to use them for my service...

What make was the oil ?

Providing it says somewhere that it meets the requirements of VW 506.01 then it's OK for a car set for AVS service.

Thats right, 0W-30 is just the multigrade.

Its the longevity spec which counts (but who's going to know?)
