Tune it up custom map rolling road results:

    Hi all,

Popped out this morning for a pint of milk and the car ended up at Clive Atthoe in Norwich on their rolling road.

Car is totally standard bar the map and it made 260bhp on the first run and 255bhp on the second with 280 lbs torque!

    Pleased is an understatement!

It's been a bit of a work in progress I suppose. I started with quite a conservative remap as I was worries about the clutch.. God bored, had it tweaked again and since then again. Totally standard and it pulls like a train power delivery is smooth and fuel consumption is good unless I rag it around. Here are the print outs... Can't recommend nick at tuneitup enough he's been awesome with the mapping, logging more mapping etc etc and he's cheaper than a lot of the generic companies in fact all of the them I think.

Mods are just to make young people spend money. Very big 'scene' for tuning - companies make billions each year from dreams..

Although today - REVO dealer show me ITG intake before and after with his 2.0TFSI KO4 strapped to dyno. They 100% increase power - he has tested many filters and sees 100% proof (at higher RPM). He has several prints from the day he buy his car until today, so there are differences for some mods out there.

Exhaust is to deal with high EGT. If people do not 100% throttle every 5 seconds (so, mature driver) there will not be problem with exhaust temperature or engine component degrading (catalytic convertor). Race track then yes I understand these pre-cat and decat changes.

    Audi S3 342hp with 297.7lb/ft REVO Stage 2+

He have many 'mods', and follow the pattern of many vehicle owners. He have difficulty against 2.0TFSI KO3 though, but I am not starting a debate.

James you have a very nice car. Keep it and look after it! You can take to Audi for servicing no problem. O.E clutch is fine for this, but Sachs Stage 1 are good in all other cars I have owned/tuned aggresively. Personally I would keep O.E. parts for it.

My friend get 265hp 325lb/ft from 2.0TFSI KO3 software only! There are crazy people in Italy/Greece/Belgium/Sweden making good, high power from TFSI up to 450hp S3 injectors, up to 550hp RS4 injectors (with supporting mods). These engines are very capable.

I fell in love with them around 2010. I have never seen 100% electronically controlled motor like these. Beautiful engine! James you must be proud x

Not just to make young people spend money!....works equally well on old gits!

Mine has cost me more than I'd like to admit, but as you say,it's a very well made engine, with a few areas that need fixing(like the breather and cam follower),but getting a lot of power from it is possible,if you spend a fair bit of money.

A few years back, getting 500+bhp from a 2.0L engine was difficult, but now,the parts are there, and the software and expertise are also there.

    Mine won't do 30mpg any more,but it averages 26-27mpg,which isn't bad for 500+bhp.

You're welcome to see the average mpg!

Obviously if I use all the power all of the time,it would be a lot less....I think it averaged 18mpg at the trackday last year, but on the daily drag into work, which is a mix of urban and rural,it will do 26-28mpg every day.

That's the advantage of a relatively small turbocharged engine compared to a 4.2L V8....mate of mine had an RS4 which he could never get much beyond 20mpg out of,and the old Escort I had would do less than 8mpg.

OK...without taking this too far off topic, and apologies in advance to JamesO...

    Revo Stg4 software.
    Modified ITG induction kit
    ATP GT3071 turbo kit
RS4 injectors and fuel pressure regulator
    PEC rods
    Wossner pistons
    External boost controller
    AEM water/meth kit
    Modified Milltek exhaust
Uprated bearings and shells inc gearbox bearings

    Around 500bhp and 480+lbs.

There's a lot more, but it would take this totally OT.

Next time. Buy programming tool for your ECU. Do the same mods - and find tuning forum!

You can study these ECU and learn yourself - more satisfaction ;-)

Not for me....I leave all that to some nice guys who know what they're doing...much safer for my engine that way!

    How do they learn?

    We are all human.

    You can do it too!

i watch somebody change 'settings' on a car with tick boxes and i gasped! but this is what is happening. not many people doing any 'tuning' apart from adjusting pre-set values in a box. very sad, i can see why professionals are emotional on the subject.

read read read. read read read. read some more! study study! Bosch MED9.1 has logic! If you do stupid 'idea' it will protect itself. It is cleverer than you and me! ;-)

An assuming you are measuring on miles covered and fuel filled and not relying on the DIS?

My 388hp 1.8T (TT) does about 34mpg according to the DIS as its calibrated for stock injectors - not the 550cc Genesis ones fitted.

Assume S3 works the same for MPG and calculates the fuel used based on injector cycles and injector size - so bigger injectors throw out the calculation.

This is true, but as at least one person here, and another elsewhere have found,it is quite easy to melt pistons by being too ambitious with the ECU settings.

Admittedly these were cars tuned above 400bhp,and I think that below that, there are margins of safety, but at the highest power levels, you need experience and access to facilities which most of us don't have.

    Absolutely.

I go on what goes into the tank and how far the car goes.

With the Escort I used to do that and got very depressed working out how few miles it would go between tanks.

Very true. I do not understand how to make huge power from these engines.

Nobody fully understands this ECU. Not one person knows everything about it! Very difficult - and I dont speak German so not easy to understand. For high power there are Gods or 'big companies' who do this stuff every day.

Seeing TFSI make high power on dyno - but rubbish in the real world (and when logging), puts me off dyno figures. Sitting in the car that went on the dyno before James O is retarded. Although the power is put down on dyno - just doesn't 'feel' special as passenger or driving myself.

James O however does feel good, with the power to match. Rolling Road is good, but driving them after seeing professional demonstration changed my opinion on these engines!

Work to do. Have fun! x

To be honest, "Jackie" there aren't many uber geeks like you out there, who obsess about map files and parameters like you do

But I agree with you. There are too many fly-by-night outfits out there who know too little and lack understanding of what they are doing with ECU maps. Shamefully, this can also include some of the big names, who quite happily take your money, but their maps are less than efficient/effective.

Why do you look at MPG screen?

Computer display doesn't know everything. Fill the tank - and reset 'trip' counter. Count the miles you actually do.

wuta3 you should do this for 3-4 tanks then reference with what i type above. these are very good engines!

    I drive like my granny.

On short trips you won't get anywhere near the best mileage out of the car.

Also, the increased torque makes a huge difference.
