Will Audi have done my Cambelt..

Just looking through my Paperwork for my S3.
Apparantly the Cambelt was due on 01/2013 as it was five years old. The health check for be previous owner stated it was Red warning and not performed.

Audi Serviced the car on 22/01/2013 which in the book is the last service.

I bought the car mid March and was told it was serviced. I presume it was serviced in January above and had a basic oil change. Not tick for belts.
With it being approved used, surely they will have done the Cambelt as it was Approved used?

If its not been done do I have a leg to stand on? They quoted the precious owner £600+ for it to be done!
I have a year warranty if that helps and cars on 33,000 miles.

Best way is to ring them, some dealerships are a bit more astute than others.

I appreciate that, just wondering more about where I stand in the whole situation. As technically they sold the car not fit for purpose if the cambelt was due and its something they were aware of as they had made the previous owner aware which I have in writing?

This is classed as an optional service item, which must be requested and not covered under Audi's service plans, which imho is PANTS !.

Having the TT's cambelt plus pulleys and water pump done for £330 incl parts labour and VAT on Thursday. It's essentially got the same engine as in the S3.

Corey I had to get my belt done when I bought mine, I went to jbs in chesterfield and they charged me 410, also had Haldex done and a service oh and brake fluid too, obviously that lot wasnt included in the price

There not the cheapest but I feel comfortable leaving my car with them, their fitting my loba/sachs clutch on Saturday too

Problem is I have no pennies at the minute. Just paid for a holiday.

If Audi have stated the cambelt was overdue in January then surely then can't sell the car, knowing it was overdue, without it being changed?
i will ring up tomorrow adi suspect my Cam follower is in need of replacement and I have a small bit of lacquer peel, I have a year warranty

I reall hope it has been done or they change it as Audi have been faultless so far and I don't want to be like my Vauxhall experience.

You can't claim not fit for purpose because you didn't check the service history properly before buying the car, I imagine you'd have been able to work getting it done into the deal when purchasing but no chance now. I'd be absolutely gobsmacked if they did it gratis 4 months down the line.

If checking the service history vs schedule is part of thw 145 point approved used check then they should have rectified it...

    • Reconditioning with Audi Original parts

Should the multi-point check highlight any irregularities, we will undertake rectification work, ensuring the car meets our meticulous standards before it reaches the forecourt. Most importantly, we only use Audi Original parts.

The 145 point inspection report should have been available for you to look at at point of sale, i guess you could still request it.

this is a linbk to a typical Audi checklist - timing belt is mentioned in section 4.1

Thank you very much Percy. Pretty confident I have enough to take with me if it hasn't been done but I don't want to doubt Audi too much

If they say they have replaced it, make sure you get a letter or a copy of the workshop work card or a print out from their computer. If worst case the belt goes in a years time at least you have evidence that Audi supposedly replaced it. Don't take this as a negative, I have a real (and well founded) mistrust with car dealerships, but others have better experience and more trust

    They haven't replaced it.

Waitimg for a sales person to ring me now and go through it all. The service lady said that, as far as she knows, if the previous owner refused the work then its upto the next owner. Sounds like a complete fob off.

See what the salesman says but I'm not impressed at all. They've sold the car, approved, knowing it was overdue and contradicting their own service schedule with it requiring outstanding work. Which also comes under their approved checks, so either they haven't done the checks properly or tried passing it off.

To my mind if the service schedule hadn't been adhered to, or wasn't addressed by Audi, then the car doesn't qualify for approved used scheme !

Ask to see the 154 point checklist !!

Just found my 145 point certificate, mine only states "Check all V belts for wear and tensions", this has been ticked to say OK.
However at the top it states "Prework: Check for outstanding Workshop Actions / Recalls. Details on work order". There's nothing against this?

personally i would myself checked if it had been done before you brought the car but its too late now.
i hope Audi will do it for you.

has the service on the car been done with the same garage you brought the car? if so, you can ask for invoices copies of work done on that car. will need the invoice number (in your service book).
thats what i did when i got my car, was for peace of mind and let me keep copy of all the invoices also.

it never crossed my mind to be honest, I bought approved used and you could say, was a bit foolish to expect all this sort of work to be done.
I have very invoice etc from the previous owner and all work in the service book. All done by the same garage I bought the car from.

IMO the car should be within the service interval for anything like this, and if there is any doubt the service wasnt complete, or the belt not replaced on time, it should be done to be considered fit for purpose.

To be honest, it would be considered very bad practice to allow the car to go out knowing the belt is due to be replaced. Im pretty sure if they replaced and added the labour charge to the initial purchase price, you would have still bought the car though.

Personaly I'd be asking them to replace it as a matter of course.

Dont rely on them calling you back, for some reason every time i need to call audi i never get a call back so i just refuse to leave my details now and call them like 5 times till i get through to the person i want, even though my number and email is clearly on there records against my name and car!

Just had a word with a old friend who I forgot works at Lincoln Audi. He's pretty certain if its not on record which the service desk said it wasn't, then they won't have done it.

He's also said they will have to do it FOC and to kick up a big fuss.
