S3 strange steering wheel noise

Not that I know of nope. ... its going in for mot on saturday then service in next few weeks though....

Thats the usual worn rack creak isn't it, have a search around been discussed on here before.

Right, so its around £900 for the part......what about labour time?!

Car is under warranty with an external company and they have only just paid out for a faulty brake servo.......

I had a similar noise in my last S3 and it was the top mounts.. They are cheaper to replace so may be worth starting there?

Cool mate, do you have any idea on price of parts and labour?

Sounds identical to what I had, chances are it needs a new rack, sorry :(

I had my rack (oooerr!) replaced. All in was around the £1500 mark as you have to drop the front subframe out so it's a bit of a mission. About £900 for the rack, £80 for the revised loom + labour.

Do you think it will pass MOT tomorrow morning if I tell them its a bit screwed? its under warranty but no idea if they are willing to pay out again as only just claimed for a servo!!!

I recently had my rack (Gen 3) replaced with a rebuilt unit by a specialist in Glasgow, cost was £707 fitted, 2 hrs labour. They told me they do tons of these racks as they are notoriously bad throughout the Audi range.

Apparently water ingres is the main problem and even if you get a new rack it will go again in a few years.

My local VAG stealer quoted me £1900 supply and fit and as the techicians there are that well trained it takes them a full working day to fit it.

The warranty company should cover it as it will be a separate claim to the servo.
