VCDS simple help needed please

Im looking to get a cable for my laptop so i can scan the car before i buy it! However...
theres soo many cables on ebay and most say not available for the A3 8P and are unsure which one to buy.

Is there a specific version number i need to buy?

I know i need the VCDS Lite version to go with it rather than a full version.

If someone can put me in the right direction i would be really appreciative.


I went to see a car today and it has a engine warning light on and the guy said it was the exhaust, and it would be helpful if i could come prepared in future to check the problem myself. (i would of bought it anyway but the guy didnt have the V5 document so walked away). i can test it out on my dads dirty branded VW golf right?

I really would buy the genuine one, but i cant affort it aswell as a car and insurance! But i think in the long run jus gettin a cheap one before i purchase a car would be beneficial instead of buying without :/
