Hi, I'm currently looking into getting my 2.0T FSI Bluefin'd. My only worry is my car has 111k on the clock, would it be daft to remap with such high mileage? Could really do with some opinions to help me make up my mind, thanks
Was just looking on eBay and spotted a Bluefin for £220 yesterday that I had seen on 3 times before and it's price kept dropping, been messaging the guy and got it for £170 including delivery. He's sending it out tomorrow, looking forward to installing it on my car. I would of definitely gone for the custom map with Unicorn as it sounded the best option for me but to get a Bluefin for £170 was just to good to turn down
You won't be able to use bluefin from somebody else's car on yours until you get in touch with Superchips and they re-set it for you.
They also charge for it
Its already been reset, I checked the serial number with Superchips
Bargain. These units usually go for about that price un-reset, and then you have to pay superchips a further £150-£250 to reset it.
Thanks Ads, thought it was an absolute bargain so jumped at it. Looking forward to getting it on my car, going off your experience though I just hope they send the correct map for the DSG haha
Haha, yep, if you start having smoothness issues then it's the first thing to check.
Enjoy!
Do they do different kinds of maps? Can it be tweaked? Thanks mate, I'm sure I'll enjoy it.
First you'll receive the generic map they send out to everyone with the same engine/gearbox as you. This is usually fine for most people, but if after installing it you are not happy with the performance just give them a call explaining what you were hoping for and they'll send you a more aggressive map (or less, if you want it) immediately.
Oh right, that's good that they do that. Did you just keep the generic one mate or you end up tweaking it?
Nah, I just kept the generic one, it was just right. Any more aggressive and my car would've had some serious traction problems.
Maybe if I was interested in fitting other bits and pieces to improve traction then I would've asked them for something a bit more torquey.
Thanks for the info mate, I'll see how the generic one is and take it from there
OK so Bluefin arrived yesterday and I installed it today, upon reloading the new map it kept saying PCM ERROR. Said this around 3 times then started to install something, the map I'm guessing. After this it made me turn ignition on, then off, then on, then off and then on again and said Bluefin installed. Thing is my car doesn't feel any different at all, tried to ring them but they were closed and their site says they are only open weekdays which is no good to me as its now the weekend. Anybody any ideas? Can the map be reinstalled maybe?
If you plug the bluefin in again what does it say? If it says bluefin installed or something like that then your car should already have the remap loaded to it.
Uninstall the remap and then reinstall it. Hopefully this time you won't get an error. If you do then you'll need to speak to superchips as you may have the incorrect remap or faulty unit.
did you read your own ECU to back it up first? then connect it to Superchips' servers to check it's been reset for your specific engine? have you entered your details in the software?
I think you may need to contact superchips to have it transfered to your ownership! I was told by a reseller this was tricky to do and in a lot of cases it was easier to buy new.

Sorry if I'm teaching you to suck eggs but from what you have wrote above the ignition should be on while it is installing and you should only have to turn the ignition off after it has said Bluefin installed

Yeah it didn't seem right, all the error messages then making me turn ignition on and off about 5/6 times. Hopefully a reinstall will sort it out
That ignition switching is totally normal. The finishing procedure when installing or removing the remap always requires about 4 to 6 on/off cycles of the ignition.
But the ignition should've been on during the bulk of the install process... the on off on off on off bit only happens right at the end.
I sold my reset unit on to Digzz and he had an error when loading his remap also. Might be a common problem on units that have been reset. He got on to superchips and they sorted it for him remotely though.
Ok reinstalled map and car feels much different now, it didn't throw up any errors this time. Something must of gone wrong last time, can definitely feel the difference. Still going to have a word with Superchips as it feels about flat in places, I'm wondering if they have sent me the manual map instead of DSG
Definitely worth checking with them that you've got the dsg version map. The manual map will probably give you a slight hesitation when the car tries to produce a lot of torque quickly... e.g. accelerating hard from a slow speed at low revs. You'll feel a short stutter as the power builds.
Did you state Auto Transmission in your vehicle registration details? If not, edit them in the PC program, plug the unit in, connect and see if it updates with a different file from the server.
That is exactly how it feels mate

my remap guy said hes had a few cars come in with blufin tuning done on the dyno and not made a great amount of power, but worth getting as you can return it if your not happy with it which is good service
he did say the maps had nice smooth power output but not a decent increase but as you said ads if yiu ask then you want moe power they would tune the map to be more ferociousSpeaking to superchips I got the impression they were very careful of not increasing power too much and maybe causing excessive wear of engines etc.
The guy I spoke to said they had various other more aggressive maps for each engine but as a starting point they send out the ones that they consider "safest". Customers can then go back to them if they want something a bit more tasty.
