If you drive without any mechanical sympathy then yes it would be. If you don't rag it once in a while then I am sure you will be okay provided you stay on top of servicing - oil changes, etc.

I'm having mine done to 175 and around 380-400nm torque, for 70 quid! Blacksmoke.co.uk is the site worth a read anyway

Manual or Auto? Whats it mileage? hows the clutch? etc etc all depends

If you have a high mileage one with a clutch nearing the end of its a life, the remap will make the clutch slip silly.

Anything over 180hp will quickly wear and eventually blow the turbo

Not long had mine remapped, approx 180bhp & 400Nm & all been fine. Car has now done 120,000. Had clutch, flywheel & engine mounts replaced last year so I'm guessing that the turbo will be next to replace!

As said, if you have no respect for the engine it won't last long! My dad for instance has blown up 4 'standard' engines in the last 10 years due to lack of oil, one day he will learn!!

And a remap for £70??? Ok then. You'd be better spending it on premium fuel tbh

s3 intercooler on a bkd engine is a waste of money standard intercooler is fine.

A bit harsh, just have a search and there's many reviews on the mk 4 forums that are very happy, saying smooth power delivery and the guy is very very helpful

Well why pay a stupid amount when you can get it done way cheaper, unless of course your going stage 2 and obviously require a custom map and RR

Edit: the map is loaded on via yourself which is why it's cheaper.

Its a manual, with 75,000 miles, clutch is perfect. Just had the car serviced couple of weeks ago..

How much stick can the stock clutch take then? From the threads I've read, it's wise to factor in the price of a new clutch once remapped.

Mines mapped with a milltek decat and brand new intercooler plus silicone boost hoses mapped to 175bhp but got 309ft lb torque as soon as the exhaist system beds in you will get bit more bhp only 2-4bhp but all counts so ill need a dyno run, plus last night i took all boost hoses off and found no oil in them at all they were dry which shows my catch can is working

Dont think my clutch would hand more than 180bhp and 315ft lb torque plus strain on the turbo running high boost plus dont listen to people who say there car is this n that unless they have dyno proof and any joey can have there car mapped but you will never know figures unless you take it on a dyno take that in consideration for when you get it mapped

Sounds beefier and turbo spool up is faster, dont be one of those guys who goes and gets. £50 remap of a joker and then brags that its 200bhp just go to a decent company around where you live and then get them to put it on a dyno and remap it or go to a revo dealer there maps are good you will get 170-180bhp max aslong as your turbo and boost hoses hold boost well also intercooler needs to be good condition but make sure you soend £250+ as cheaper than that i would question the quality of the remap

Got a ITG panel filter, cat back Miltek with a stage 1 Shark remap and its fine running 175hp. Still on standard clutch and turbo at 63,000 now, done over 2,000 miles with the map. Just make sure you let the oil warm up when starting your journey and give a good few miles granny driving when nearly home and keep on top of servicing and buy good oil ;-)
