Maybe we've run out of things to say. Or maybe the glut of new A3 owners is slowing and everyone knows what they need to know. Or maybe we're all having sex. Not with each other.

It isn't just me - for a moment I was worried that people might have defected to that USA orientated forum "fourtitude", but there are no familar names over there - sad bunch too /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh_roll.gif
me too,lexus or bmw next i think,bit disapointed with the audi experience,also been looking at lcd tv's,although this can be harder than buying a car.
Lexus or 159 for me.
I'm also looking at LCD TV's !

Samsung's seem to cost less than the competition,but I've never been impressed with their stuff.
Mate of mine bought a Samsung CRT and it suffered from terrible casing buzz.
Put me clean off their stuff for life.
Doesn't matter if it's a TV or a car.
If it rattles,it annoys me !

i do like the sony,but its a bit more than the samsung,and apparently uses the same screen as the,
i hate ratles too,which is why im fed up with audi's at the moment

Its a real shame, as i really liked my b5 a4, and still enjoying my 8L S3. For my next choice i was hoping for a b7 S or RS4.. but looks like the audi fanbase is dwindling....

there are only two major manufacturers of TFT LCD panels in the world. Chances are that most TFT panels you may own are samsung. And as they make them themselves, i cant see them using anything but grade A panels in their own kit.

my passat that i had before was the same and i had that from new,

Without checking,I'm not really in a position to argue,but I would take this statement with a pinch of salt.
Even if Samsung are one of only two manufacturers of the screens themselves,the fact that the other manufacturers add their own processing systems to the screens makes a helluva difference.
Put it this way,I can't remember many/any Samsung LCD TV's winning awards in the specialist press.
Hitachi,Sony and Panasonic have though.

depends really on how important styling is to you. For me, unfortuntately, styling is very important - so if the choice was between the 2, i'd be a label whore and buy the sony... even though i know the others are technically as competent, if not more so.
Its a shame that other companies dont produce such aesthetically pleasing designs, or go and ruin it with some unneccesarily large garish addition.
I think Sony's main problem is that they're a halfway house between budget and people like B&O. I dare say,if you don't look elsewhere,then Audi will look very good indeed.

I too would have another A3 tomorrow if it was up for renewal, if I wait a couploe of months and have moved into my new house then I will would go for an a4 I think in similar spec to my 3 as the garage I have at the moment isn;t bug enough to fit an a4 but new one has a nice bige, no I man huge double garage (double dorred not just really long!)
Yes I do look at the competition and I looked at other manufactures when I ordered my current a3 last december. There are other cars on the market but the audi does everything just about right for me.

Same here, getting A3 2.0 TDI next week after 13 months of using an A3 1.6, the cars done 14000 miles without a rattle or a knock, at time of ordering (3 months ago) it was a toss up between the TDI or a Golf GTI but the insurance was horrendous on the Golf, tried friends 1-series but didnt do anything for me (although had far stronger residuals).....

Another whinge I'm afraid....
I bought my A3 2 years ago and was without it for 7 weeks because of the legendary wiper problem, the dealers near me are useless and the car rattles all the time. This is not what I'd expect from a premium car manufacturer.
My previous A3 was great and I had no problems with it, but build quality has gone down hill with the 8P model.
The only reason I'm sticking with my car at the moment is that there's nothing else out there for a similar price that I fancy. I'm tempted to wait for the new TT next year (assuming that the coupe version is prettier than the shooting brake thing), but the same issues will be there with the dealers and I'm not optimistic about the build quality either.

Quite true - as with most PC parts ,these LCD panels are made by 2 or 3 suppliers. As to why some get different reviews, less to do with whose "processing" systems (This is part of the LCD panel by the way, its so integrated into the panel its scary) and more to do with the incredibly biased world of journo's - who gives them a better bung i'm afraid (and more afraid that people believe their schmuck!)

As to why some get different reviews, less to do with whose "processing" systems (This is part of the LCD panel by the way, its so integrated into the panel its scary) and more to do with the incredibly biased world of journo's - who gives them a better bung i'm afraid (and more afraid that people believe their schmuck!)

Beechwood Audi in Halesowen is the worst garage I've ever dealt with (too many ****-ups to mention, but one classic example is when they broke something on my car and didn't mention it to me until a couple of weeks later when the replacement part arrived). Or there's the time when they scratched my bonnet.....
I tried Stratford Audi next as they were recommended to me, and when they serviced my car they forgot to reset the service indicator. They also failed to fix my rear brake light when in blew; they suggested it was something to do with the bulb warning system, when in fact all it needed was a new bulb. Great!
So in a month's time I'm trying Listers in Worcester. Fingers crossed they might restore my faith in Audi dealers!

I agree with you on Leicester Audi. When Reg Vardy had the franchise the place was a joke. I used to drive to Autohaus Audi in Northampton for servicing. Then they lost the franchise and Vindis opened up as Northampton Audi and they went downhill FAST. Since John Fox took over at Leicester the place has changed for the better and both the sales and service are excellent.

To suggest that all reports are based on backhanders is nonsense in my book.
Put it this way,if you read a great review on an Audi,would you assume the reporter was 'getting a George Graham' or would that be different ?

there are only two major manufacturers of TFT LCD panels in the world. Chances are that most TFT panels you may own are samsung. And as they make them themselves, i cant see them using anything but grade A panels in their own kit.

Without checking,I'm not really in a position to argue,but I would take this statement with a pinch of salt.
Even if Samsung are one of only two manufacturers of the screens themselves,the fact that the other manufacturers add their own processing systems to the screens makes a helluva difference.
Put it this way,I can't remember many/any Samsung LCD TV's winning awards in the specialist press.
Hitachi,Sony and Panasonic have though.

Quite true - as with most PC parts ,these LCD panels are made by 2 or 3 suppliers. As to why some get different reviews, less to do with whose "processing" systems (This is part of the LCD panel by the way, its so integrated into the panel its scary) and more to do with the incredibly biased world of journo's - who gives them a better bung i'm afraid (and more afraid that people believe their schmuck!)

This is utter BS, 99% of journalists have more chance of getting a piece published either as a freelancer or past a Sub-editor if the article is controversial. In my (considerable) experience it is very difficult to 'buy' the press - sure they get shipped off to exotic locations for new vehicle launches but don't think it induces them to write more favourably - exactly the opposite happens as the cynical knob gets cranked up to the max.
Think of Jeremy Clarkson and the infamous Vectra - he made more money out of slagging it rather than saying it was no worse than an equivalent Mondeo.
The only time you seen rubbish pieces is when the journo has done a big 'copy 'n paste' out of the press pack - usually seen in your local paper.
As for the LCD panels - yep Sharp and Samsung are two of the largest manufacturers - building both their own designs and joint ventures with other vendors i.e. Sony/Samsung. The fancy picture electronics maybe integral with the panel but don't assume that Sharp or Samsung either own or can sell the technology themselves when they are undertaking contract manufacturing for other people.

sorry - just speaking from experience of dealing with journo's for 13 years...........and having around 5 as close mates too - in fact some early reviews of mobile phones were almost written by the maufacturers (Honest!!)
As for bad news sells, well thats true, however for reviews, they just want to get them done as quick as possible and move onto the next piece - following the general trend is muc quicker.
