Hi guys,

My 2010 A3 2.0tdi 170 Black Edition was stolen last year in November. It was recovered by the police and returned to me after my insurer sent it to their 'approved repair centre' to have a few things fixed after the theft. Since I got it back I've purchased VCDS and have scanned the ECU to reveal the following fault code:

Address 17: Instruments Labels: 8P0-920-xxx-17-MY8.clb
Part No SW: 8P0 920 982 J HW: 8P0 920 982 J
Component: KOMBIINSTR. VDO H03 0990
Revision: D0H03004 Serial number: 2248I004009588
Coding: 0004428
Shop #: WSC 80093 222 69422
VCID: 408906D7137F461861C

1 Fault Found:
00003 - Control Module
014 - Defective
Freeze Frame:
Fault Status: 01101110
Fault Priority: 1
Fault Frequency: 1
Mileage: 41261 km
Time Indication: 0
Date: 2012.12.10
Time: 09:28:00

Based on the freeze frame data captured with the code, the fault was caused whilst the car was in the 'approved repair centre' having a new ignition switch fitted! (The new ignition & keys were necessary as the thieves found the spare key when they broke into my flat, which they then used to drive away in my car with all my stuff!). I've not had any instrument-related problems since getting the car back, but I'm still worried about the fault code, and the fact that it cant be cleared with VCDS (it comes back as soon as its cleared).

First question is does anyone have any advice on how to sort this out? Should I just call my insurer and tell them the fault was caused by their repair centre, and I have the VCDS scan log to prove it?

Second question is, does anyone know anything about this fault code? I've done various searches without much joy, and the Ross-tech site does not help much with this one.

Thanks,
Matt.
