He decided to remove his fuses because his DIS went off, and wouldn't turn back on.. Now the DIS is back, his car will not start. It is a DSG and the P is flashing and will not allow him to move the stick.

i had a look last night and he's missing one for the auto trans, put one in obviously the right amp and still nothing. I'll have another look when I get in, but it's hard to know what he's missing as I haven't seen it before he was let loose in there.

Chris, what I would do now is to go over the fuseboard with a fine toothed comb, and make double sure that every working circuit has a good fuse. Your dad already missed out one fuse, so there may be others missing too. If you put a fuse in an unused circuit, it should not matter. Don't forget there are two fuseboxes, one under the bonnet, and one inside. When it all checks out OK, then do a battery disconnect, short out the battery connections for a few seconds (electronic reset), and then connect up again. With all circuits now live together, there is a chance it will recover and start communicating properly on the can bus. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply, I was thinking exactly that, filling the whole fuse box with correct fuses even if its not needed, as it won't do any harm if there isn't a circuit there.

Is there a right/wrong way to short out the battery? I've not heard of doing that before :-/

Check all fuses and have a look to see if any are blown then get hold of vag com after replacing the blown fuses if any, run a scan and then clear all faults, it should be all ok fingers crossed

Chris, when you simply disconnect the battery, it takes off the 12V supply to all of the car. However, some electronic modules may have capacitors installed that might retain some power. So an easy way to discharge any residual voltage is to touch the connections together, so shorting out any residual power to ground. That at least ensures that you restart from a real zero voltage. Anyway, it can do no harm. Just thought of something..... are you sure that the immobiliser is not allowing the car to start? I believe that you need the key fob correctly registered to the car in order to please the immobiliser circuits. I am sure a forum member can confirm this.

looks a lot like the instrument cluster may be defective, i would try putting the long code back into it. failing this im a bit stuck maybe a new one required. possibly you could get that guy that was flashing the rs3 software onto them to give that a shot see if it sorts it out
