Warranty and brake servo fitting question

My car (Audi S3 2007) is in for a repair at a Audi specialist and they have said its the brake servo that has failed.....part is £180 or so and labour I was quoted at first was for 10 hours at £66 an hour.


I have had the authorisation back from warranty wise and they have quoted this in the repair times......


"AUTHORISED FOR THE BRAKE SERVO WITH REQUIRED LABOUR
AS PER E3 TECHNICAL ICME TIMES."


The brake servo time to repair has been set at 1.8 hours......! now what the hell is E3 technical ICME times?! Can a servo be fitted in 1.8 hours?!
 
thh, 10 hrs does seem a tad long. 2hrs more like it.
 
Cheers- Are you sure the warranty company are not charging for a master cylinder replacement and not servo? As far as I am aware....The engine has to be dropped to get the servo out!
 
10 hours to fit it?! Who're they getting to do it, their Dad and younger brother? It can't be more than a couple of hours surely, and that's with tea-breaks?

I have asked for the form that Warranty wise use to diagnose how long it takes for jobs......

It MUST be well more than this as I have just rang Audi and they have quoted me 4.5 hours to do the job....

Not sure if its the right thing to do buying this warranty!!!
 
They've quoted for a LHD model which is the only official repair procedure that is avaliable, where 1.8 hours is probably correct as the servo is behind the battery.

There isn't an official procedure in elsawin for RHD (tells you all you need to know) and its a very awkward job, engine has to be very carefully dropped and pulled forward to allow the servo to come out and its a only just as well. Plus the master cylinder has to be removed and refitted so the fun of bleeding everything through including the ABS pump. Horrible horrible job, infact if they haven't got suitable diagnostic gear to be able to cycle the ABS pump then they shouldn't be doing it as it'll take forever to get the air out of the pump without out.

If you want to get an appreciation for the job go and look at the brake fluid reservior and the master cylinder beneath it, the round black cylinder it's bolted to is the servo and that is what has to be removed and refitted. Square peg and a very small round hole.

You are about to be in for a world of ****e I should imagine as warrentywise will be a pain as computersaysno.

Whats the fault? Lack of brake assiance of is it just hissing?

Cheers for the excellent reply! I have been seriously depressed over this! Autodata is also quoting 2.2 hours which is still 50% quicker than the actual manufactures of the car haha!

The brakes sometimes "jump" as if the ABS is kicking in (but it isnt) so I am losing confidence in the car and just want it sorting. The hissing has also got much worse.

I am going to contact a couple of Audi dealers and ask for time quotes to do this job and put it in writing, I just hope it comes close to the 10 hours that the specialist has put forward for the job.....

I am thinking that I shouldn't even get this repaired now but I HAVE to as its to do with brakes....not something minor!!!
 
Now to find some pics/diagrams to support my claims that it is not a 1.8 hour job and they are quoting me for a LHD drive car!!! Good luck to me I say haha
 
I'll run you the elsawin guide off which pretty much follows those steps saying LHD models only.
 
Ah cool cheers! Why would you need to remove a battery if the servo is not even located behind it.....thats my only clause I have so far!!

Only mentions LHD futher up the elsawin tree but you can clearly see from the diagrams that a) its what they are quoting for and b) its not relevent to RHD cars as they move the M/S and servo over to the drivers side.

Shame they weren't lazy like every other manufacture and left it where it was and linked the pedal with a relay bar.
