Could I use vagcom/vcds to tell if timing is out?

Timing as in ignition timing?

Doesn't work like that dude... ignition timing is all done in the map... you can log actual timing and timing pull with VCDS as part of diagnosing potential issues but the actual timing advance is set in the map which is adjusted on the fly based on what the ECU sees from other sensors (******* timing if knock is detected, IAT's too hot etc)

Cheers mate, I had the timing belt done just after I bought the car and have since noticed that sometimes when accelerating it seems to lag or stutter.

Thought it might show if the timing was out.

Cheers for the input pal

Check its not a tooth out... normally throws an 'Incorrect Correlation' code if the belt has been fitted a tooth out though...

Have you scanned for fault codes?

No mate haven't got either to check just wanted to see if it would before I start bothering to ask people
