hey guys and gals,
my car has been in the garage for the past 5 weeks since three days after i bought it with a metal grinding sounds. turns out it was the transfer box. After being sent to a gearbox centre to be re-conditioned they decided they couldn't. So the garage have just informed me there going to get and brand new box from Audi and fit that.

So my question is what's that gonna cost them? and i assumed the new box will come with a manufactures guarantee?

oh and it's not DSG it's a manual quattro, or is that the same thing? I'm new to Audi and very confused with it all hahah.

About a grand reconditioned. Who knows from Audi, but it be very expensive.

This will be an estimate based on mine when it needed replacing and it was around £1200 if I remember correctly.

The gearbox had been whining and was stripped and rebuilt but the transfer box was also damaged and like yours was not able to be rebuilt.
Audi only sell complete units and thus a rebuild wasn't an option.

thanks, do they share the same oil?

I don't know but at that price I would expect the transfer case is separately fed from a gold spoon.

haha fair one buddy!

I suppose in fairness to Audi(!),the price isn't bad,as I remember gearbox bits for my Escort used to come in above that as did most services,so I suppose its not awful.

Just a nasty surprise!
