gearbox removal

ok guys good question for you here

When removing the gearbox the right thing to do is take off the drive shafts and the prop shaft and remove the gearbox with the transfer box right? Well if i was to undo the 4 bolts which hold the transfer box onto the gearbox then remove the gearbox would that make any difference at all or is that just a way around not removing the prop shaft and the drivers side drive shaft?
