Sorry another thermpostat question (replacing thermostat)

Hi sorry another thermostat question, i have used the search function but cant find the answer,

pretty sure my thermostat is stuck open and have purchased a new one but have a few questions about fitting,

i understand you need to take the altenator belt and altenator off, but do you need to take the intake manifold off? do you do it from under the car or from the top?
