Missing PR codes, parking sensors and disc diameters?

    Hi all,

I've recently acquired a 2010 S3 quattro 3-dr black edition (s tronic) and have appreciated the knowledge on this forum while searching for info (my thanks for this are included in my rambling introduction here).

There are a few fairly minor things I need to sort out on the car, one being to replace the worn and badly lipped discs all round. The car itself has less than 20k on it and the paintwork isn't peppered with chips, so I didn't think the previous owner had been ragging the thing but I assume it must have endured some enthusiastic use to have the discs so worn so quickly?

I asked the seller (a non-Audi prestige car dealer near here) about it's history, to make sure it wasn't previously stolen and apparently it's clean. Apart from the discs, it looks great and seems to drive well.

Anyway, after purchasing I had it checked over by my local Audi service centre, as it's still under warranty until July, to verify what needed sorting out and - where covered by the warranty - to get it done. They said the car seemed to be in very good condition, aside from the discs/pads and duff parking sensors. Oh and some trivial stuff like blocked rear washer jets.

I'm reluctant to pay the £800+ they want to sort out the discs and pads; that's just eye-watering...plus I'm not exactly flush with cash, having just bought the car. For my previous A3, I would use the local SEAT/VW service centre as I've known them a long time and they're a good chunk cheaper.

I wanted to confirm the disc diameters, so that I can see if I can buy a set online, then just pay the labour to get them fitted. Does anyone know?

Searching on the forum pointed me in the direction of the PR code sticker, so that I can cross reference the codes with another thread containing the diameters...but I can't find the damn thing. It's not stuck in the service schedule and it's nowhere in the boot or tire well area. Are there any other places I should be looking? Otherwise I'll try asking the dealer if they can print them out for me.

Finally, on the parking sensors, the Audi service folks said they wouldn't touch them under warranty as they appear to be badly seated or have been pushed in, possibly by a minor parking bump. They also said there's evidence of some minor paintwork being done to the rear bumper as there's a small lip of paint over at least one of the sensors. They claim that properly reseating the working sensors and replacing the broken ones should do the job but want to charge for that.

Frankly, I don't really care about parking sensors - or at least, I wouldn't have ordered them on a new car by choice. But as they are fitted and not working, I'd like to get them working if for no other reason than I like stuff to be in good order (plus the long, loud beep from the parking sensor button on the centre console every time I go into reverse is annoying).

I'm going to try my luck with the used car dealer I bought from, to see if he'll sort it. Is refitting these sensors a big job? Or am I taking the p*ss asking him?

    Cheers all...have a great weekend.

The PR sticker should be on the inside front cover of the service book. If it's not then is there evidence of it being ripped off ? Also as you say there should be one in the spare wheel well. There is no other place to look as far as I know.

Audi will print one off for you if you can't find it.

Why don't you ask your VAG specialist for a price because they could probably get them as cheap or cheaper than you could ?

Thanks Mike. No, definitely not in the cover of the service book and no evidence of a sticker having been pulled out. I'll ask Audi to print one out for me as you say, as it's a handy thing to have.

I shall do that. I'm waiting to hear back this morning from the SEAT folks I've regularly used on their quote as well. I saw some Pagid's on Eurocarparts for £74 each (front) and £43 each (rear). I know the SEAT chaps charge about £80 per hour for labour so I'm starting to build up a picture.

    Thanks!

Done a bit of ETKA research and I think you have :-

    FRONT - PR 1ZK - 345x30mm 5/112 - part no. 1K0 615 301 M - about £120 from Audi

    REAR - PR 1KJ - 282x12mm 5/112 - part no. 1K0 615 601 AD - about £50 from Audi

    But please check first !!

The ware rate on your brakes is more or less ok but will depend on how much the last driver liked to do alot of heavy braking from high speeds, one the last of the late brakers as I call them.

It's also know that cars with auto gear boxes ware there brakes faster than manuals due to the fact that there is less braking force from the engine of a auto as you slow down so more effort is requied from your brakes,It,s all down to the timing of when the drive is disengaged in order to prevent stalling the engine just before you stop.

That is extremely kind - thank you! Earlier today I got a call back from the dealer I bought it from, who said he'd have their workshop look at the sensor problem and put it right for me - no quibbling. If they follow through with that, then that's good service. I'm due a call back from their workshop on Monday, so let me see if they'll put it right for free.

I very much appreciate the offer of help - cheers!!

Update: the nice lady at Audi emailed me screenshots of all my PR codes from her computer, so now I have all the info I needed complete with a proper description of each one. Sweet!

It was indeed 1ZK for the front but it was 1KW for the rear. Apologies, I should have included that in the update. Sorry!
