stripping engine soon for a rebuild so am thinking is it worth cleaning my 15 month old turbo at the same time if so what to use ?

no harm in cleaning it, the most common turbo cleaner I know is innotec turbo cleaner, normally around £30-40

If you use innotec make a better blank because the paper one supplied is ****ing ****e!! Use something that doesn't absorb moisture (tin foil ,Perspex etc. )
