    Car won't start!

Help Audi 2006 A3 1.9 tdi not starting......the car was used this morning with no problems then wouldnt start this after noon.
Battery seems fine plenty of juice in it there is none of the usual clicks from the starter motor. The only thing i am hearing is a click from a relay in the dashboard. Vag com gave me no codes.

Is this most probably the starter motor?

is this more likely to be the ignition switch?

does anyone know how to get the blooming plug off the alternator (it has a small red clip that is now broken on it...lol).

why does this stuff always happen in bad weather.

not having much fun with ma wifes car at the moment, one thing after another should have kept her old faithful 1999 A3

    Thanks in advance

Had a guy out to look at the car, said the coolant temp sensor could possibly stop the car starting anyone else came across this? Or as i thought the starter motor.

The coolant sensor has been coming on intermittently for a while now when its cold but never really gave us any problems and normally went off.

    cheers

I know on the 2.0 bkd there's a relay in fusebox under hood next to the battery.

The red plastic lug usually slides forward or out backwards a little, which then unlocks the actual connector clip to undo from the connection socket, its a type of lock so it doesnt pop of from road noise/bumps etc.

I would remove the starter, put 12v across the starter motor see if it works, ground the casing as this is how it works iirc & positive onto the terminal, hold onto it tight as it can create a hell of a force when running, if that works then work backwards, check the main thick ground wire onto chassis isnt corroded underneath, as this can happen.

Fixed ....was the starter just found it strange how it just chucked it with no warning.

I ended up breaking the red plastic part of the clip off (accidentally) which let me see how the clip hooked on inside it, a small prise off with a screwdriver and it was off.

Refit took about half an hour as the car had been stripped down and jacked up the previous night so a very positive result.

ill keep an eye on the coolant sensor see if i need to change that.

    Cheers to all.
