    A3 2.0 TDI170 EGR REMOVEAL

    Hi guys,

    im trying to find out wether it will be benifical to delete the EGR valve on my car? After reading quite a few posts and totalling up the pros and the cons, it seems that you get way more problems by deleting the EGR valve.

    Can anybody help? Is it worth doing or just leave it?

    You only get more problems if the egr isnt mapped out & if egr removed completely, the conversion isnt done properly, so yes it can be beneficial & troublesome when not professionally removed.

    That would depend on what you're trying to achieve tbh, but 170, I would be more worried about the dpf than the egr.

    You shouldn't get ANY problems removing the EGR - that's the point. We are finding they are developing more and more faults. THey are getting so sooted up that they are not seating properly, and passing exhaust gas when they should be closed. This leads to smokey running which can quickly kill a DPF and also lead to less power and lumpy running on idle. That said, removing a correctly functioning valve won't suddenly tranform the way the car drives. If you are having the DPF done, it makes a lot of sense to do the EGR.

    Yes but the egr would need mapping out or it would bring mil on, which although wont cause issues with the car mostly, people would crap themselves worrying about it or does the 170 not need this?

    But removing EGR will make more unburnt particles getting into atmosphere poisoning us all not to mention that diesels fumes are very cancerogenic especially for kids and old people

    i havnt removed mine yet as i just dont wanna drive around with the engine managment light on kinda worrys me !

    I'm in this camp..... Fix it if broken, it serves a good purpose.

    If your going to moan about the environment why are you driving a fossil fuel'd car, go buy a hybrid.

    And if diesel fumes are cancerous, what is a stage 2 s3 doing for the environment and our lungs, especially when the s3 uses twice as much fuel producing twice as much emmisions?

    Eh I hope thats not directed at me coz you got the wrong end of the stick!!! It doesnt put me up nor down if anyone decides to remove the DPF/EGR. Its not gonna make any difference to the environment IMO. Theres more pressing issues to be concerned with nowadays than being green and friendly and hugging trees.

    Nope, it wasn't. Its directed at people who come on a car forum and moan about how dangerous the gasses that come out of the exhaust are.

    Give me a fire spitting s3, and i will gladly ruin the environment.

    Just as Jeremy Clarkson says.. I am fully aware of the environment, and i'm still not interested.

    i have 1 blank plate on the pipe flange at the right sise of my egr on my 56 plate a3 2.0 tdi 140 and also had it mapped out with remap is this ok or do i realy need to have it removed will it cause any problems?

    Thats a bkd, so egr cooler is still attached at right rear of engine then, so it may leak internally & cause issues later as the egr port into engine isnt blocked of at rear from what you're saying, if egr's mapped out & the blanking plate fitted to front, then I would consider removing the egr cooler aswell & join the coolant pipes at rear so no chance of issues of loss of coolant aswell & fit blanking plate at rear aswell.

    Funnily enough I'm a car enthusiast so didnt come on moaning about how dangerous or polluting anything is. Just saying theres no point in taking stuff like this off for the hell of it - it has a purpose. If you want a fire breathing s3 good for you, but taking off an egr on its own will do nothing. Likewise unless you remap it to make it run properly removing dpf just ads to pollution already caused by the fuel used.

    Assume you don't have kids...

    I agree, when you do it really makes you change your perception etc on life, future etc & consideration towards others, IMHO, well has me anyway, but I wasnt exactly a nasty petrolhead before, but these days supercars do not even go into my head, cant be arsed with that anymore, maybe I'll have an s3 again, but for now happy as is & more concerned about my daughters health than my power hunger

    yes it is a bkd mate i just undone the silver pipe on right of egr and slid in blank and refit i have got another blank you say ineed to fit it at the rear of egr somewhere? do you have any pics of where to fit the other plate as i dont want to fit it in the wrong place . and do the cooler pipes have enough slack to delet cooler and just conenct together or is there a delete pipe for this ? i have seen egr delete kit will it reduce any risk of problems if i just fit one of those or not? any help would be great

    I've got kids, and why would that make me give any more of a sh#t about the 'environment' the whole thing IMO is a natural change that would happen weather we burnt more fuel or not, as you can guess I'm not really a 'bag for life' person!
