    Best way to increase horsepower on Audi A3 1.6 FSI

    Hi everyone

    I'm new on the forum so I apologise if I've posted this in the wrong section.

    I'm looking for the best way to increase BHP on my Audi A3 1.6 FSI petrol engine. Currently it has 115HP.

    I've looked at products online, such as this one (Audi A3 (03-on) 1.6 Petrol 40 BHP POWER CHIP & FUEL SAVER - 49.99 : Tuning Wizard - High performance chip upgrades, fuel savers and much more, unleash your vehicles full potential.) but given the low price, I'm assuming it's total crap, and it claims to raise BHP by 40 which seems unlikely for a petrol engine.

    Also I've looked at remapping the engine (Audi A3 TDi FSi Remapping - Mobile ECU Remap Chip Tuning Yorkshire Discount | eBay) which is more expensive but only boosts horsepower by 13.

    I would love to get some advice from someone who's more experienced than me (not difficult to meet the criteria).

    Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

    Welcome to the club.
    I have the same 1.6FSI Engine!
    Best things would be performance exhaust, custom CAI, remap.
    im hoping for around 140 once all these are done.
    Mods so far...
    LED Interior Lights, Front splitter, 10mm Front Spacers, Cruise Control.
    Puddle/ Footwell Lights, LED spot, number plate and side lights.
    75% Window Tints, MY11 Lights, Black Optics Grill.
    MFSW, Leather trimmed Grab Handles.
    Custom CAI, CH/LH Lights
    JL Audio, DAB radio
    Vinyl wrap wing mirrors
    Mods planned...
    JETEX Cat Back System
    Remap, Rear Spacers, RNS-E, Bluetooth,
    ARBs, Alcantara roof

    Didnt you jusy post up a thread, then it was deleted then a new thread with just the letter T in it?

    Its not worth it on a 1.6 tbh, gains are very limited overall.

    Also, how would an exhaust impact on torque and BHP?

    To get any noticeable differences you would have to spend a fair bit, you would be best to get a 1.8-2.0 tdi or tfsi, as remaps for these arent that expensive & give rather good numbers, so less money for more gain overall.

    Also, do you reckon a remap alone would make a noticeable difference in acceleration and speed in general?

    Thing is, being a young driver I can't really afford anything over 1.6 as insurance is really expensive for me..

    Yes thats one option, I'm going to make my own for a lot cheaper than a K&N!
    a better exhaust let's the gases flow better and faster so burnt fumes leave the engine faster.
    Cant quote any figures but for the sound alone it's an improvement.

    A remap would make a bit of a difference but best to do other engine mods first

    Could you advise on a particular performance exhaust model?

    Also, out of the 3 things you suggested, which one would make most impact as unfortunately I cannot afford all 3 for the time being?

    Im looking at a jetex cat back system.
    Tbh its up to you.
    The air intake I'm going to make will be around the £50 mark,
    possibly exhaust first so it sounds better.

    Thanks for the info! I looked on the jetix website and they haven't got any prices listed for any of their products. Also looked around on ebay for this particular make but wasn't able to find anything.

    Although a search for cat back systems on ebay returned results in the range of £400 to £1000, which is pretty much not within my budget. How much are the ones you're looking at?

    In terms of speed, what would be the most suitable option?

    Actually I was able to find the particular jetix cat back system on other sites, and as I suspected the price range is not really affordable to me right now as I'm student.

    to be honest, i wouldn't bother. NA engines are not easy tunable as turbo engines, i doubt that there would be any benefit of cat back exhaust, eventually performance air filter and a remap. but then again the gain would be 15bhp. don't know if you would feel the difference.

    I agree that there's no point with the 1.6, the gains aren't worth the money. Save the pennies for a replacement car in a year or two.

    what they said ^^ I had a 1.6 at a young age too from my experience no point spending too much on it cos you aint gonna gain much from it unless money is no issue to you and all I did was lowered, tint , 18s, K&N filter that about it and I had it for nearly 2yrs maybe you should of look at a 1.4T instead

    i cant belive that there are people that are advising you to spend money on modifying a 1.6 to get more power. thats spineless advice.
    you can spend over £1k just to get 7bhp & you wont notice any difference.
    to get any noticable power fron that engine 1). the bottom end needs to be rebored to increase the engine size to around 1.8litres, 2). you need to get fast road cams such as piper cams, 3). gasflow the cylinder head, 4). then you can add a stainless steel exhaust and a decent CAI (cold air intake). then you can remapp the ecu with a custom map.
    at his stage you might be lucky to get 20BHP but with a noticable amount of realistic torque.
    TSR up north might give you more advice.
    IMHO i would spend the money on some nice oem rims, tailspipes and an air filter. period.

    1.6 FSI doesn't have much grunt.


    Tuning the engine can give some extra torque - but don't expect it to turn into a Magic Carpet

    Boxed Air intake remap and cat back straight pipe and you will be lucky to get. 10-15bhp
    i did the above on my bmw 116i 115bhp and i got it upto 127bhp dynod but wasnt really noticable
    A3 2.0TDI FWD sportback with GT1756 225bhp 351ft lb, forge boost hoses red, milltek decat system, BMC panel filter, golf gti edition 30 full front brakes brembo pads, black honeycomb grill, full oem s line kit + cupra r lip, LED side lights, OEM xenons, LED interior lighting, LED A8 number plate lights, boost gauge, alloy catch can with red hoses, FBSW, windows tinted, de-badged, now on air ride with chassis notch

    There aren't any tuning options worth the time or money for the 1.6FSI.

    Leeds if you lived closer I would ask to borrow your car and see what is possible at my local Rolling Road (REVO Dealer - Dastek Dyno). I haven't seen one of these yet to comment!

    That's a shame as, from the little research I've done, very little gains can be made from just remapping. Think I read somewhere that a lad spent a good couple of hundred quid remapping his 2.0FSI and the only difference he could tell is that it was smoother through the gears.

    That isn't good.

    This is where a Rolling Road - and keep the vehicle strapped while demonstrating proves better. If he spent a couple hundred quid and didn't enjoy it he shouldn't have paid. Gotta go - I need an umbrella!

    Same theory jackie brown, its bot worth it i spend about £800 hardly boticed the power and remap was rated 4-5bhp and minimal torque tbh my bmw just sounded alot nicer
