    Torsion value BKD ENGINE

    My car was a little warm as the mrs used it go to the shops,i went out and plugged in vcds and temp reading was 58.....so i warmed the car up on idle,reving it now and then,finally at the normal temp reading (90 on the dash) vcds was showing 81.1,at this stage i checked torsion reading and it was showing -2 is this ok?..............im going to have cambelt done in 2-3 weeks if torsion needs doing then il tell mechanic sort it if not il tell him dont mess! anyone put me on the right tracks,i.e if need doing what to do etc?

    Torsion value BKD ENGINE

    When you do the belt it should pull the torsion back to 0. It's probably showing -2 at the moment as the belts stretch & slacken slightly over time.

    When the belt gets done is it best undo the 3 bolts then fit the belt,do both pulleys need to be locked? ive heard theres 2 pulleys and both should be sitting exactly the same,so that the pins lock both pulleys,that way you can be sure that both are identically set,defo not a job without tools then? And if i didnt get pulleys don and and just replace new belt a few thousand miles later the belt would strtch and torsion value would be way out?

    Sorry,misread that......if i get the mechanic to leave the pulleys alone,are you saying the new belt will bring torsion back to '0' without undoing the pulley bolts? or is it best lock both pulleys,undo bolts replace belt ?

    your mechanic should know how to set and lock the pulleys with the correct tool, lol if your having to tell him what to do, go somewhere who knows what there doing.

    Timing Belt fitting procedure for BKD:

    NOTE: Engine must be COLD.
    1. Ensure camshaft sprockets locked with tools Fig.19404.9 & Fig.19404.10.
    2. Ensure crankshaft sprocket locking tool located correctly Fig.19404.11.
    3. Ensure timing marks aligned Fig.19404.12.
    4. Ensure tensioner pulley locking pin inserted Fig.19404.18. Tool No.T10115.
    5. Ensure tensioner retaining lug is properly engaged Fig.19404.20.
    6. Turn camshaft sprockets fully clockwise in slotted holes.NOTE: Sprockets should turn freely without tilting.
    7. Fit timing belt in clockwise direction, starting at crankshaft sprocket.NOTE: If reusing old belt, observe direction of rotation marks on belt. Ensure belt is taut between sprockets on non-tensioned side.
    8. Remove locking pin from tensioner pulley Fig.19404.18. Tool No.T10115.
    9. Slacken tensioner pulley nut Fig.19404.15.
    10. Turn tensioner pulley slowly clockwise until pointer aligned with notch Fig.19404.21. Use tool No.T10020 Fig.19404.17.NOTE: Ensure tensioner pulley nut does not turn Fig.19404.15.
    11. Hold tensioner pulley. Use tool No.T10020 Fig.19404.17.
    12. Tighten tensioner pulley nut Fig.19404.15. Tightening torque: 20 Nm + 45°.NOTE: As tensioner pulley nut is tightened, the pointer may move clockwise 5 mm maximum. DO NOT adjust position of tensioner pulley. Timing belt will settle once run in.
    13. Hold camshaft sprocket (CA1). Use tool No.T10172.NOTE: Ensure belt is taut between sprockets on non-tensioned side.
    14. Tighten bolts of each camshaft sprocket Fig.19404.13 & Fig.19404.14. Tightening torque: 25 Nm.
    15. Remove:
        • Camshaft sprocket holding tool.
        • Camshaft sprocket locking tools Fig.19404.9 & Fig.19404.10.
        • Crankshaft sprocket locking tool Fig.19404.A or Fig.19404.B.
    16. Check valve timing as follows:
        • Turn crankshaft slowly two turns clockwise until just before TDC on No.1 cylinder.
        • Fit camshaft sprocket (CA1) locking tool while slowly turning crankshaft to TDC Fig.19404.9. Tool No.3359.
        • Ensure camshaft sprocket (CA2) locking tool can be inserted Fig.19404.10. Tool No.3359.
        • Ensure crankshaft sprocket locking tool can be inserted easily Fig.19404.A or Fig.19404.B.
        • Ensure timing marks aligned Fig.19404.12.
        • Ensure tensioner pulley pointer aligned with notch or 5 mm maximum to the right of notch Fig.19404.21.
    17. If camshaft sprocket (CA2) locking tool cannot be inserted Fig.19404.10:
        • Slacken camshaft sprocket (CA2) bolts Fig.19404.14.
        • Turn camshaft sprocket (CA2) hub until locking tool can be inserted Fig.19404.10. Tool No.3359.
        • Hold camshaft sprocket (CA2). Use tool No.T10172.
        • Tighten camshaft sprocket (CA2) bolts Fig.19404.14. Tightening torque: 25 Nm.
        • Remove camshaft sprocket holding tool.
        • Remove locking tools Fig.19404.9, Fig.19404.10, Fig.19404.A or Fig.19404.B.
        • Check valve timing.
    18. If crankshaft sprocket locking tool cannot be inserted Fig.19404.A or Fig.19404.B:
        • Slacken bolts of each camshaft sprocket Fig.19404.13 & Fig.19404.14.
        • Turn crankshaft sprocket until locking tool can be inserted Fig.19404.A or Fig.19404.B.
        • Hold camshaft sprocket (CA1). Use tool No.T10172.

        • NOTE: Ensure belt is taut between sprockets on non-tensioned side.

        • Tighten bolts of each camshaft sprocket Fig.19404.13 & Fig.19404.14. Tightening torque: 25 Nm.
        • Remove camshaft sprocket holding tool.
        • Remove locking tools Fig.19404.9, Fig.19404.10 & Fig.19404.A or Fig.19404.B.
        • Check valve timing.
    19. Install RH engine mounting bracket Fig.19404.7.NOTE: Engine may need to be raised/lowered slightly.
    20. Tighten RH engine mounting bracket bolts Fig.19404.6. Tightening torque: 45 Nm + 90°. Use new bolts.
    21. Install components in reverse order of removal.
    22. Tighten crankshaft pulley bolts Fig.19404.2. Tightening torque: 10 Nm + 90°. Use new bolts.
    23. Fit and align RH engine mounting:
        • Engine mounting clearance: 13,5 mm Fig.19404.22.
        • Ensure engine mounting aligned parallel with engine mounting bracket Fig.19404.23.
    24. Tighten:
        • Engine mounting bolts Fig.19404.24. Tightening torque: 50 Nm.
        • Engine mounting bolts Fig.19404.25. Tightening torque: 20 Nm + 90°. Use new bolts.
        • Engine mounting bolts Fig.19404.26. Tightening torque: 60 Nm + 90°. Use new bolts.
    25. Tighten bolt securing lower torque reaction link to subframe. Tightening torque: 100 Nm + 90°. Use new bolt.

    Lol, hes got some locking tools,used him for last 10+ years,knows his stuff,BUT he does use the locking pins and sometimes tip-ex style,he's never done me wrong yet,this will be my first DOHC il be taking to him,he's probably don em before,but i want my torsion values setting,where as i know alot of people dont bother,they just drop car off and end of.

    My values are reading -2 on idle,and to be honest dont change much when i rev the car or drive it,mainly stays at -2.
    Am i right,the torsion should be set when the car is at normal operatin temp?
    Is it best re-set it with the old cambelt still on,then once set,replace cambelt, what should i set it to? i hear '0' is right setting what max i can set it to? i hear people setting to '0' and having issues.

        • Hold camshaft sprocket (CA1). Use tool No.T10172.

        • Remove camshaft sprocket holding tool.

    21. Install components in reverse order of removal.
    22. Tighten crankshaft pulley bolts Fig.19404.2. Tightening torque: 10 Nm + 90°. Use new bolts.
    23. Fit and align RH engine mounting:

    Torsion value BKD ENGINE

    Torsion should be 0 to 0.05 on the BKD engine, although another .5 in either direction isn't really a problem. Get your mechanic to fit the belt & check the torsion after its fitted & up to temperature, make any adjustments from there. Remember the front cam adjusts torsion & the rear will have to be adjusted to suit although there is no way of checking the rear on VCDS, rough idle is a sign the rear cam is out

    Thank very much,much appreciated,il get my mechanic to do exactly that,couple of questions though 1: can back cam be locked and front adjusted?
    2: if both cams are locked with locking tools will that put both cams in 100% equal positions.......oh and 1 more question(or 2) I was told when new belt is fitted,it will pull torsion back into place...is this true? and is -2 way out,will it affect power/fuel economy?

    One more thing,i noticed when im driving and my heating is on full(high) and say powered up half way,my temp needle drops just below half sometimes bit more,is this normal? heaters stay hot,also using vcds temp reading go's from 86.9 down to 78.3 or there about,that normaL?

    SORRY FOR ALL QUESTIONS.
