So what are the factory options to have and any to avoid?

Ok so starting my search for an S3 and would like to know what are the more desirable factory options, on my list so far are xenons, sat nav, rear parking?

Are you they are desirable or not, as I have heard they are very uncomfortable?

S3 should come with a good spec always!, xenons are standard, you want nav, multi function wheel, pdc, heated seats, bose, exclusive and extended leather always looks good! and possibly a individual color! I had a solar orange one last year with these options, only thing I wish it had was a sunroof.

If you spend time driving long distances on motorways or find speed limits and speed cameras a worry consider cruise control. Like automatic gearboxes was once considered un-cool for red blooded Boy Racers, but these days the 'thinking persons' choice.

I would agree with Xenons all day long, cruise, mf wheel, tint pack, parking sensors

IMHO avoid the roof, I had one in mine and it constantly creaked, made the car hot as hell and was told they are prone to breaking.

Xenons are standard, find a car with "comfort pack", this will give auto lights and wipers, rear sensors and cruise. Sat Nav was standard from around MY2012 cars (61 plate cars generally). If you want a black edition then they come with Bose, privacy glass as standard and the rotor wheels.

As said, most S3's are specced well but if a car stands out as cheaper than the rest then it probably has the base spec.

Well I thought if I did buy an s3 without buckets, when I do see an s3 with them I would always be gutted,
And also thought why make do with car your paying so much for might as well spend a little more and get the one you want.

4.5 Years with buckets and no regrets. Just miles of comfort, great hold when I'm thrashing it and loads of compliments from passengers

Interior light pack is a good option too, the puddle and door lights are nice and make me less nervous about opening my door on a busy street.

2 things I've not got on mine that I wish I had, buckets and fold in mirrors. My car would be perfect if it had those.

Things I couldn't do without, cruise, auto everything, bluetooth prep.

Nav was standard for 2011 cars along with AMI & bluetooth. Black Ed added bose, rotors and black styling pack.

Only options I added were comfort pack, interior light pack, folding mirrors, storage pack & 5 year warranty.

The 5 year warranty is a steal if you're planning on keeping that long.

Xenons, buckets, and maybe the parking sensor, but the sat-nav is inflexible and ludicrously expensive.

If you haven't got this option then it can be retro fitted ;-)

Re the RNSe/Satnav, I had mine fitted when I bought the car for no extra cost, its better than having the normal radio.

If you're judging it on how good a Satnav it is though, I have a 2 year old TomTom sat in the drawer at home that pisses all over it, unfortunately.

Prices charged by car manufacturers for their optional satnav, is imho is a rip off.

I'd focus on the stuff you can't easily retrofit, don't pass up a nice low mileage example in the colour you want at a good price for the sake of retro fitting an aftermarket equivalent of Bose, for example.

I love the buckets... So comfy, I do a few long trips as well and I'm not the thinnest of people.

Only thing I have found is that they hug you so well, that if I have my wallet in my back pocket it hurts my ass...

They are an absolute must along with comfort pack and folding mirrors.

My car also has Bose, leather rear seats(not sure if that's standard) sat nav plus, front and rear parking sensors, privacy glass. Love them all and I was lucky to find a car with the options I wanted so quickly.

My rear seats are heated leather so think are standard,
only niggle I've got with buckets is your arse doesn't sit right at the back, not for comfort at all, just it seems to stretch the leather in a circle mines not to bad but seen some older mileage ones looking really bad,
not sure if you can get a leather cream to keep tension?
