warning has just come up, saying service in 1100 miles. the car is on a long life service, so this would just be a Oil service and it first one. any idea how much?

Always check your oil, you should never let it get down to warning light level.

Top it up and book in for service. I think it may cost in around £100 including parts, vat and labour.

Car is a diesel. I always top up the oil (litre bottle in the boot), sorry if i confused but meant the service due warning, not a low oil level warning. I bought the car new (now 8 months old - 8.5k miles), so it came with long life. How much at the dealers?

Ah the service light comes on anyway building up to it so you can arrange for it to be done.

As said, I think you can pay around £100 for an interval service which is just an oil change. Personally I would do it myself but if you want the book stamped and all for history, book it in.

Check Audi website for fixed price servicing.

Yep £149 for an oil change, that sucks :beee: but it says for cars over 36 months. Any one had a newish car serviced recently ??

Yeah mines coming up to mate. Just an oil service is needed according to the DIS. Need to decide what the best thing to do is. May give the dealer a call where I bought it to get a price.

If the cars on long life it shouldn't be due a service until 18500 miles, get it booked in to get them to change it to long life, as your on a fixed service regime.

Just had my 4 y/o S3 in for an oil change only, £150 out of pocket for the pleasure.
DIS said 8k until it was due but I don't like the long life servicing.
Infact I would go as far as to say that I wouldn't buy a car that had been on long life.

Hi there, had mine into manchester audi yesterday, due its first oil change service, had it done under the 2 years free servicing, but if not it would have cost £149. milage was around 11500

I'm new to both turbo's & Audi's, so can someone tell me why it's not wise to go for the long life plan? If it's the Sludge thing, I thought that was a thing of the past???

I've had my 3 year old for 6 months and got 2 years free servicing, but it looks like it'll not need servicing for another 13,000 miles and by my reckoning that'll be right at the end of the two years. also I think I've seen an option in VCDS to alter the service interval, could I do this and keep my warranty intact?

cheers

Take your own oil in like i do ,saves you £70 odd they charge for oil and you can choose your own.
Remember to get your spare litre back if your taking a 5 litre can

my 2010 s3 will need an oil change soon and i always take my own oil and filter and i think the labour costs me £65 - £70.

Are you allowed take in your own oil to a main dealer?

Yeah you can! But you won't get much spare oil, as the s3 takes 4.7 liters iirc

My oil has been done 3 times this year
Me too n8  . Rob just get yourself a set of axel stands and a trolley jack and get it done much cheaper in the long run and you get the satisfaction

got mine done on tuesday at national tyres stood there while they put in the oil, castrol 5/30 edge.
was £44 but printed off a 10% discount voucher from tinternet, so came to £40, but i did put a couple of quid into there xmas lash up fund

i have done this as an interim service, as i dont like the idea of long life, next service will be through audi to keep the service history upto date.

cheers for the input ppl, just a sucker for the dealer stamp but been quoted £170 a oil change by the stealers. don't forget my car is only 8 months old, if it was 3 yrs or more I would be using a independent.

Ouch £170 for an oil change, just got mine done today, last one was done over 25k miles ago, Paid £60 inc labour. It depends how badly you want the stamp on the service book to be honest.

Just drop the oil out yourself it only takes half hour. Just keep the receipt for the oil. Any future buyer of your car would understand.

8.5 k and 8 months and it needs an oil change. I am on that now and DIS says another 10k before the oil needs dropping

I know, I rang the audi dealer I bought the car from, as it was a show room demo. when they released the car to me it was PDI again and the service setting looks to have been reset. the service book notes long life service, therefore not sure what to do Goochy lad

Mines a company vehicle so I could not give a rats about it. I will just get it serviced when it tells me at a main dealer. This is around every 17k on a longlife service. If however I personally owned the car from new and was keeping it a while I would drop the oil out of it every 12 months or 10k whichever occurs first. However I would do it myself and just buy the right oil rather than pay Audi 150 quid. I would not be bothered about the stamp in the book. Buy the oil from Audi and keep the receipt as any future buyer would be interested to see it and you could explain why.

Long life servicing is shoot ! My old golf had its first oil change at 17 k and a major service at 38k which I would then get the dealer to do as it needed all filters doing etc. In your position I would ask Audi if you did your own all change and they then did the major servicing if they would honour the warranty to the 3 yrs or 60k

I fully service the wife's 1.9 tdi myself and buy all OEM parts and keep the receipts. Stuff the dealer or Indy stamp. Means very little to me.

If I bought a second hand car I like to see receipts more than stamps.

Rob pal, did you get the oil service done at your dealer?

I've just booked mine in on Friday for one at the dealer I got my A3 from last May. £189 inc VAT. :crying:

I got 2 years free servicing as I bought Audi approved used... Still get an local specialist to change the oil between the free servicing though....

How do you guys turn the service light off after doing the service yourself? Im more than capable of servicing my own car which pains me to pay someone to work on my car just because they can turn a light off.. Does it need to be VCDS? Or is it more simple than that?

Mine was an Approved Used Audi too but I hate finance so decided to save my pennies and pay cash (with a part ex)...which they didn't like. Hence no "free servicing" which I don't believe in anyway. If there is a problem on a free service they probably won't do anything about it if they can get away with it. Not until the the free servicing expires anyway.

However I do have warranty still so that's why i'm taking back to them as I don't want them to turn around and say you didn't have this done with us so we can't help, if I have a problem.

Mines due the end of this month and i may let my local vw dealer take care of it.Have used them before with my GTi and ED30
and never had any issues.
Also quoted me £250 to retrofit rear park sensors which sounds reasonable.Anyone else done this..

not booked mine in as yet but have been quote £149 inc. vat. have not asked if i can bring in my own oil as yet. not sure how much oil costs?? will i save much?

Jeez, I thought about asking for a better price on the telephone but bottled it. I think 4/5 ltrs of Castrol is about £60.

Correction. I just put my number plate into Halfords and they are doing 4ltrs of Castrol for £37.59. Saving almost £10

Yup just been in Halfrauds and bought a 1 litre top up bottle for 16.99. The 4 litres was 38 quid. I would buy it and take your oil to Audi. However be prepared for the old "you don't take your own potatoes to the chippy and ask them to cook them for you do ya !" Chestnut some garages give you !

how much will audi charge for the oil & filter?

good question...

She did give me the usual shpeel about it including a health check etc. etc. Yeah cheers.
