Okay I have 8 j wheels with 215 40 18 s it handles awful because of this to I'm changeling my tyres but do I go for a 35 or 40 profile what's the difference that this will make to comfort handling anything else I think they usualy have 40 s don't they thanks dan

Standard size on a 7.5J rim is 225 so on an 8J it should be 225 or 235 depending on offset. 215's would look daft.

Howdy,

To answer your Question - indeed 40 is the standard one, 35 would be cool too I guess but ride a little harder, if you have coil overs that would not matter much...

If your country's roads are bad though I would rather go with 40's - might give you an extra life with a pothole...?

Goodluck

Your speedo and rolling circumference will be wayyyyy off if you fit /35

Standard size is 225 40 18 on a 7.5j rim, a 225 35 18 on an 8j rim is a difference of -3.5% rolling radius. Or to put it another way... If the speedo reads 70mph you're actually doing 67.5mph. Lower profile looks good but the ride suffers slightly.

Okay I've gone from 17 s to 18 a anyway but I think I'll go for the 40s look after the wheels and comfort more

225/40 R18 will be the best for the car as that was what the A3 was designed around. I have 8J x 18 on the front on my BMW and that was 225/40 R18 from the factory.
