Today the clasp which opens and closes the armrest snapped off in my hand along with a thin metal strip like a hairpin.

So now my armrest will not 'lock' shut. Bearing in mind that I have leather and hence a leather trimmed armrest, should it need a full new lid - it probably will not be as cheap as you'd think.

So would it be covered under warranty? Surely after 17 months of ownership it shouldn't snap like that?

yes - providing it doesn't look like its had a hammer at it...

Mine snapped too, after about 4 months, had it replaced under warranty but they have to replace the whole unit, not just the lid!
