Just took it off and gave it a clean with brake cleaner,didnt look dirty but ive had car 4 years so thought may aswell.....on the sensor it shows a pic of a resistor,but mine aint got one,my mate who brought one a mont ago from audi said his didnt either,i just wanted to know if thats right?

I would say ignore it, if it works dont worry. A lot of manufactures use the same sensor bodies for a number of vehicles so not uncommon to see strange symbols on parts. It may be a temperature probe that may not be needed on your car as some MAFS have them built in.
 
If you aren't suffering any problems with the maf sensor then avoid cleaning them - in some cases cleaning them can damage them.
