Oil for 2.0 TDI

Hi.
I've had a quick search for this and couldn't find anything, so apologies.

Which is the best Oil to use in my 2008 2.0 TDI 170?
Mine is getting a bit low so could do with a top up.

Any oil that meets vw spec 507.00, like quantum longlife or castrol edge

I have some fully synthetic 5W-40 in my garage.
Would this be ok just to top up my oil? May only need to put in half a litre or so.

only use it if its VW- 504 or 507 spec.
