Picked up an A3 2.0tdi on Monday and it has a fuel leak from the top of the fuel pump under the bonnet.

This has led to fuel splashing all over the engine bay - car is back at the garage I bought it from (a Merc main dealer) to be sorted.

Am I right in thinking the auxiliary belts will need replacing as they will have been contaminated with the fuel?

I'll obviously expect them to steam clean the engine bay & anywhere else covered in diesel.

Anything else I shoul dbe getting them to do / check?

Thanks.

Are you sure any gaurantee's haven't already run out.

Dealer has just called and said they have replaces O ring on the fuel filter and are going to keep it over night & give it a run to check it has solved the problem.

They have also steam cleaned everywhere.

So is it the fuel filter or fuel pump that was leaking?
I had the high pressure pump gasket go and that was leaking diesel and making the car smell awful.
The gasket cost under a tenner and its about an hours labour.

I thought it was fuel pump, but maybe fuel filter is on top of fuel pump?

Front left of engine bay next to the washer bottle, has 4 (IIRC) pipe going into the top.

That's the fuel filter.
