Damaged drivers door armrest - Repair or replace?

After some forum advice on fixing a split in my drivers door armrest pad (see pic) Not sure what's caused it to crack and split like that, must have sharp elbows!

Wondering if it's best to try and get repaired somewhere, try a wrap or something or just get a replacement from Audi? Anyone know if I'd need the whole door card or can I just order the pad section?

Guessing the Sportback drivers door armrest will be different dimensions to my 2008 S3 3 door though?

The other link mentions "Black leather S3 doorcards with red ambient lights (cracks in leather on driverside, common problem)" so with that, plus The Engineers comment, I see this is a common issue and not just me having razors for elbows!
