Key Coding with VCDS Report , Expert Required!!

2005 8P A3 2.0L TDI

I've been trying without luck to solve my remote key locking issue. I've had several door lock components replaced which has completed solved the manual opening/closing procedure (new lock cylinder & door lock module).

However the remote locking is still a mystery. I've bought a full copy of VCDS and and attempted to follow the remote coding procedure. The car appears to learn both remotes by flashing the indicators when the lock button is pressed during the key adapation in central convenience (good sign!), but once you exit VCDS the remotes seem to forget everything. Please note the immobiliser works perfectly on both keys, and the batteries are new and have been tested.

I'm still new to VCDS and haven't ventured beyond the autoscan and key adapatations yet - can anyone help?

Below is my autoscan report, perhaps this will help. Surprsied to see so many radio faults, but presume this is because I've installed a bluetooth parrot. I've also tried clearing the fault codes and retrying the VCDS key learning procedure - no luck.

Have you tried synchronizing the keys as per car manual?

Thanks for the relpy. Yeah i've tried the method it mentions in the hand book, and also another method I found online - neither work.

I've had this problem before was a dud remote, if you have a rectangular shaped key you can get a new one for around £50 from Audi
but if yours is the later triangularish shaped key you have to buy a complete key which would need to be matched to immobiliser

Typical - mine is the triangle shaped fob. I read somewhere that you can remove the immobiliser from the fob and transplant it in a new eBay key so long as the transponder/freqency matches the original key. Then just switch the key blade.

Might look into this if I can find an online guide.

Think I'll avoid that then.

Can't believe both remotes are duds even though they correctly communicate with the car by making the indicators work by pressing the lock button during the resync procedure.

Just popped the remote open - the immobiliser is separate, making it very easy to replace the pcb and recode with vcds hopefully.

Now to get onto eBay and start bidding for a new fob!

It's fixed!! If anyone is having remote locking problems with the above symptoms the solution is VERY simple.

It appears that both my triangular remotes had died, so I ordered a new fob from eBay (£20) and made sure to match the MHz (434) and the serial number which was 8P0837220. Then I transferred my blade key and immobiliser chip into the new fob. Very easy to do as the immo chip is totally separate from the circuit board and works independently (looks like a long grain of rice if you're not sure).

Then fire up VCDS, perform the key recode procedure and hey presto it works!

Just be careful with the immobiliser chip because it's glass and you could break it when changing over.

Also using a fake/counterfeit/clone cable, without vcds you wouldnt be anywhere near sorted, it maybe well to remember this & the developement that went into to enable these faults to be resolved.
