coilovers dont fit

hi all
just got back from the garage to have my coilies fitted. problem was they dont fit. i was told and i read that the struts on my 1.6 8p1 are the 50mm but nnnooo not the case. when the mechanic measured the strurt before fitting he found that mine are the 55mm struts.

so i ask you audi sport universe why is this
as u can guess im more than a little ****** off

Now you mention it, I'm sure I read ages ago that there was a difference between 2.0 litre models and anything below (55mm for 2.0 and above), 50mm for anything below 2.0.

Can't be 100% why (must be a weight thing I'd assume), but to convert from one to another size as an upgrade would probably require new hubs. Where did you end up buying the coilies from?
