Question about wheel offsets

If an A3 is normally fitted with ET56 offset wheels, is there any reason why ET45s would not also fit? As far as I can see, would they not fit fine, albeit sit out a little more?

They should be fine but all depends on what size wheels they are as getting down to ET44 (spacers fitted) on my S3 the 18" rotors would rub on the rear wheel arch screw.
