Hi all.

Anyone have any experience of ECU Engine Remapping & Chip Tuning by Custom Tuning?

They are offering remaps for £150 for August, seems better than any other price ive seen which generally leads me to think its a case of if it looks to good to be true, it probably is.

Any experience with them or thoughts?

Cheers in advance.

I don't know these guys at all,and wouldn't want to do them a disservice, but very cheap things are usually very cheap for a reason.

Thanks for your input. I agree about cheap for a reason. Im only just getting into this modding lark and dont know much about it. Can you tell me how difficult it is for these guys to do an engine remap and what could be the consequences for a bad one?

It says on their website that after the remap you can go on a test drive with the engineer and if you're not happy they will remove it and not charge you at all.

My own advice would be to stick with Revo,Shark or APR,as the more established leaders in mapping currently, and my own choice was Revo.
It's quite an art perfecting a good map,and integrating boost, fuelling, timing etc under varying load and temperature conditions, and a truly bad map(one that simply increases boost without dealing with timing and fuelling)can be an engine breaker, although I doubt that anyone would now release something that bad.

Don't discount a company just because they have the sense to run a promotion in the summer month when trade is quiet. The normal price of £275 is on a par with other tuners.

I paid £150 for my map which was done as part of a charity event. Transformed the car and had no problems in the time it's been done which is over a year. Mine was done by Carbon Chiptuning LTD

I've read horror stories regarding Revo maps and also good things too so it just depends on your experience I guess.

There's so many maps out there, VAS works are local to you (ish) and do revo maps and I must say that's what I'm running and have been thoroughly impressed. otherwise another place near to you is regal autosport and as far as i'm aware they advocate giac software maps.

As alot of people have said.....do your homework 1st before selecting the company to do your mapping as the cheapest isnt necessarily the best and neither is the dearest. As it can come back to bite you as one of my customers has just found out. He went for a cheapy remap (took the guy 5 mins to do) for his A4 Avant CR120 down in Wales from a friend of a friend of a friend. His car went into limp home mode when yards from his house when coming back up the road and turns out that the ECU had to be replaced as it had shut down. 2 software specialists looked at it and they had never seen an ECU go into hibernation before. They reckoned whatever they guy had done when he remapped it caused a confliction which resulted in critical failure of the ECU. Total bill for new ECU, hire car, new map etc etc was over £2k

Thanks for your replies guys, looks like im gonna have to look into this a lot more. Mind giving me a run through on Sunday about what you know JtotheD?
