170 TDi - anyone had turbo issues? if so what were your symptoms pleeeeeease?!

Hi all!

Anyone reading my recent posts can pick up im having a few! issues with my new car, having had the tandem pump done, which was faulty, I still have the same symtoms.

So as title says, I would really like to hear from anyone whose had a new turbo fitted or turbo issues and exactly what your symptoms were.

Ive been reading your posts recently with a bit of sadness due to the nightmare youve been having with your 170. I have the same car and can appreciate what it must feel like. Obviously no-one has responded so far which is why I thought I'd post.

There are plenty of threads about turbo probs on this site which may be worth looking at. Would it not best to take it to a recomended Audi/VAG specialist for a diagnosis? I wouldnt touch an Audi dealership with a bargepole, that is why I use a local specalist who's an ex Audi technician.


Despite this, some on here have heard the "police siren" noise before turbo failure! Others say that this is a load of bull.
I get the police siren with mine but it doesnt worry me too much. I also run a 150 PD Golf and that has had the police siren noise for the duration of my ownership, and that has been 8 years...thing is I like the noise of it!

Anyway, good luck with the A3.

Sorry it doesnt help much but you can go insane with all the potential probs with a car.

Yes it can make you a tad insane, lol

Its crazy, I used to buy and sells cars years back and have probably owned over 100 in my life and this is the first time ive bought from a garage, all be it the probably the worst I could have wished for, purely because if they had actually checked it over properly all these things would have been picked up! added to the fact I used to be a car saleman is almost embarrasing!

I have indeed read many posts on here today and have noticed nearly all turbo failure posts mention smoke and loss of power, mine does not smoke at all and pulls like a train in 1st, 2nd and 3rd, its just 4th and upwards from about 3k or 3500k where it holds back for split seconds.

I did think about the ERG valve after all the oil in the fuel and crap that could have possibly made it worse?

Anyhoo, anymore comments much appreciacted

Heres to 3 600ml bottles of Tiger, Cobra and Heinekin for £5 from Tesco for a cheap night in, haha

To be honest Cossie, I'd seriously consider rejecting the car, you've had lots of issues, it feels like a time bomb to me. You only got it very recently didn't you?
 
Its crossed my mind mate, I did say this to them, but wait for it, they work on a no returns policy...

Booked into Audi tomorrow to have it all checked again, first time they said it was a good car overall but just the tadem pump, thats now done, but with they are going to investigate the hesitation further FOC as still there, but this time tomorrow I should know :think:
 
6 months isnt it if they have fixed it after one attempt?

Its going in Friday, I shall keep you informed of the outcome!
